Roadside cabinets are passive for fiber so no need for UPS. the VDSL ones have limited run time which is shorter than vectors fault fixing time when stuff blows over and there is no power for over 12 hours. I know which I would rather have. and I cant get it for several more years.

I had thought that most other UFB arrangements also used the same VoIP setup?
But then I'm only actually familiar with Snap via Enable UFB. The SIP VLAN actually terminates on the gateway/router (at least in my setup), rather than the ONT.

The Spark VoIP is delivered over the voice ports on the ONT.

Anybody know how to upgrade over the website? When I make a myspark with my account number it takes me to a sign in page asking for a mobile number and password I hadn't been asked to create?

EDIT

Figured it out look a while to find my way. Does anyone know if the speeds come into effect before the VOIP is installed by the technician?

pretty sure the cabinets have UPS in them how long they last is another question entirely. like Richard said no need for fibre though

the easy solution is to install an UPS for your ONT/RGW, can be had for less than 100

More than 5 and less than 12 hours I found. Lost my good sync speeds with that outage. Not that I could keep genny going overnight to keep things running anyway.

I received the new modem (Huawei HG695b) this morning, that's surprisingly fast. I replaced the old Huawei HG630b and everything runs fine for the first 2 hours. After that my computer suddently shows no LAN connection, I checked the modem all the lights are off and I am not able to turn it back on(on/off switch or unplug/plug in again from the power supply). So I called Spark support they will send me another modem and a courier bag to return this one. Not too sure what happend to it :-(

No updates for my gigatown plan though.

Did you use the wall adapter supplied with the new modem? Seen someone use the one off their old modem before and cook it up.

Yes I used the new one since I packed the old one for selling it on trademe. The new one is 12V 2A and the old one is 12V 1A

The UFB fibre is passive in the cabinets, that is, they don't contain anything that requires power. The only bits that require power are the ONT at the house and the stuff inside the Exchange.

Im currently on 30/10 fibre with ther phone over copper, if i switch to the phone over fibre will the 0161 dialing prefix still work to get the cheaper international calls?

Correct. Supposedly the 500GB plan is the last (no longer available) consumer level plan where they would let you have a static IP, which is the sole reason I'd stuck with that plan for as long as I had.

This is what I've been told by at least 2 individual CS reps anyway.

Yes, you can't get a free static IP anymore, but you can add static IP on all the consumer plans for $15/month if you want it (including Unlimited)

they must be joking I want to upgrade as I been on fibre 2 years so no contract just 30day notice so might as well stay as i am.

Thie 12 month contract is implemented because in order to take up one of the new speed profiles, your voice service needs to be moved over from copper to VoIP. Spark cannot offer the new speeds if your voice is not on VoIP. The new contract ensures they can recover the cost of Chorus changing the voice service over. This charge is passed on from Chorus to Spark whether or not a tech has to visit your property. Admittedly the charge is less when no tech visit onsite is required.

Moving from Fibre30 to Fibre100+LL, and it has been a slow process. I understand that there were new things for the CSRs to learn, but my order placed over the phone on the 5th - launch day - was actually cancelled with no notification to me. It was only when I contacted Spark to see how the plan change was going that I was told about the cancellation. Resubmitted on Tuesday, and I now have a reference number, so fingers crossed.

How long should it take to do the plan change, and VoIP cutover (no wiring visit required)?
