Finally getting around to doing this.

So is the idea is to sign up for Skinny, get a connection date after our 30 day notice period with Spark and then notify Spark of our intention to leave via the chat messaging and get an end date?

Then swap to the Skinny router on the day and enjoy free fibre for 6 months ?

If your wanting to be sure of it - book it further out than 30 days say 35 days with skinny for the connection date, wait till the work order has been confirmed -at this point Spark will likely already have received the disconnection notice but then yes confirm to them in chat (get a copy of the transcript) and or other written method for disconnection - its important its done only after you get confirmation of the new connection.

So for example if I got a connection date from Skinny on the 30 Nov at 2pm do I just ask Spark to disconnect me a the day before on the 29th Nov?

Is one day enough? Or do I ask them to disconnect on the same day as Skinny's connection date?

Thanks in advance for the info.

I would have been connected yesterday (or today) but enable are not budging on a really bad day when a lot of remote work and remote learning will happen. Skinny has tried to push for an earlier date which was today and no joy.

Fiancée is not going to be happy on Friday which is enables choice(I asked for it to be connected yesterday).

Bah humbug

This is why I am not going to change.

Last time I moved it got screwed up and did it all in the same order that the BigPipe faq said so. So not wanting to risk another multi day drop while everyone is working and schooling from home.

Was supposed to be connected on the 26th Oct at 6am, but no comms since the order was placed and as far as I can tell my Bigpipe connection is still up. All Bigpipe disconnection comms came through the Skinny CRM.

Anyone know if Skinny or Chorus are experiencing delays?

Thanks, tried to make contact since the og connection date.

Turns out a step had been forgotten and the correct speed profile hadn't been applied either. All sorted now.

Connected today.

Didn't need to use the Skinny Smart Modem in the end as the ASUS AX3000 routes 1gbps through PPPoE.

Happy lady today although I'm still annoyed at Enable for refusing to shift the date.

Set up with switch on Skinny's website and had it all done and confirmed by email in about 15 minutes.

So far I've been on a chat session with Spark for 40 minutes and I still don't have confirmation of the cancellation.

Thanks for posting the info. I have put in my submission to change my ISP to Skinny as well on 30th November. 6 months free + no CG-NAT is win for me.

Do whatever you want to do man.

I am in the middle of transitioning from one broadband provider to a different provider.

As with many others on Geekzone it seems to be an unnecessarily difficult and worrying transition.
From other posts I have read, the broadband providers, and possibly Chorus seem to be incredibly touchy and pedantic as to how the request to leave and be reconnected is framed.

Timing seems overly critical/pedantic as to dates and who to tell first or second. There are various opinions on this. The providers or Chorus seem to go off in a huff if the procedure is not followed in the way they or their competitors deem to be correct.

It seems obvious if you ask for one to disconnect and another to connect that they would talk to each other and sort the timing etc. out between themselves.

I get the feeling , which may be wrong, that the losing service provider makes it difficult so that the winning provider looks bad and gives the customer, in the middle, the feeling that they made a wrong decision by leaving them. In effect telling the customer off.

Going from Stuff to Skinny seemed easy.

I just signed up with Skinny online, they emailed me to confirm who my current provider was.

On connection day Skinny was up and running and I no longer had a service listed under my Stuff account. I didn't have to contact them to disconnect.

The issue seems to be that skinny didn't request a transfer of service. In theory they should ask the fibre provider to transfer you to their service which will result in a short outage while chorus take down one service and liven the replacement. Without that notification that skinny seemingly couldn't apply after they have lodged a service request the only person chorus are contracted to are your existing provider, so they must terminate your service.

I do understand why it's like this and it does make sense that if they terminated your service without telling your provider they could accidentally cut you off, but the new providers really should step up to the plate and if they didn't bother to tell chorus in the correct was that it was a transfer should be able to sort that side of things out to make it seamless.

For me I emailed skinny saying this is a transfer when they asked, they promptly didn't submit the order as a transfer despite then literally asking me if it was and having all the details they needed on that email. Then I said have you submitted it as a transfer and they came back with no and we can't change it.

Signed up to this deal with Skinny on 10/11. Got a confirmation email at 5:50pm confirming my switch over on 24/11. But at 5:48 on 10/11 my fixed IP with Bigpipe changed. I'm not too worried about losing the fixed IP as I made provisions to live without it on Skinny, but it does seem like too much of a coincidence. Have yet to notify Bigpipe I am leaving.
