Connect it up to itunes, it should automatically ask if you want to update it.

Plasmaglows: My iPhone 3g worked straight away

internet.telecom.co.nz as the APN

the APN is literally the only thing I had to change, oh and I restarted the phone after putting the SIM in

I didn't even bother rebooting my iPhone, just put the XT SIM in, turned on 3G (I always locked it on 2G with Vodafone otherwise I would always call failure) and changed the APN and never looked back.

ive noticed that the battery does run out faster then it did before.. but i suppose thats because its using 3G network all the time... compared to swaping between 2G and 3G while with vodafone...
but the way i use the phone... it at least lasts a day.. so thats cool with me..
i have not noticed any warm backside tho.. how do you use it?

I do have it pushing emails etc use it on trade me a bit have never used more than a 100mb for the month tho so not heavly on the net, couple of quick calls a day
I always had 3g enabled when I was using vodafone but there was no 3g at work which is most of the day maybe thats all it is, eg. I charged it this morning (didnt use it) and checked it at lunch time and it was dead
How much do you use your phone in a day?

i am using 3.0 beta 5... :P
only recently got it... and seems to be a bit better than it was with 2.2.1...
i had it running 2.2.1 for couple of days prior to upgrading... some nice person helped me out... but with tomorrows wwdc.. hopefully everyone can use it..!

my quick experience between the two updates... i think its wee bit better with 3.0... but still not as good as being on voda switching back and forth between 2 & 3g.... interesting tho isnt it...

ok thinking this might have something to do with it
Charged my phone before I went home yesterday it went flat with hardly using it by 10 pm
but something I have notcied is the usage
5hrs 20 min standby
5hrs 20 min usage

Im think this must have something to do with it as I did not use it for 5 hours
could this be a bug with beta 5?

does yours do this?
