Incredibly tempted to drop $800 on this thing....
Only thing i'm concerned about is that it'll be an extra $80+ for a 16gb microsd, and it seems to be a pain to find somethign better than Class 2.

Class 6 cards are everywhere. Got mine off trademe. 16gb for $80.

Saw some random branded ones, a bit concerned they might be 'fake' - perhaps lacking in speed in random read/write or something. If you can suggest one which will definitely operate as expected i'd be interested.

Only concerned on this becuase i have a class 2 4gb which cant seem to access more than one thing at a time (ie music will cut out briefly while browsing the directory), and my experience from buying a 16gb USB drive is that all are not made equal (esp manufacturers read/write claims)

Been using it for about a month and haven't noticed anything unusual. Transfer speeds seem to be fine, and no random glitching when listening to music, etc.

OK - after few nervous emails with MobCiti - after my order suddenly disappeared from their website; only to be told that they were out of stock and then suddenly getting the fedex tracking number - the phone is supposed to arrive tomorrow. I don't know what I am more excited about; the all whites tomorrow morning or my phone arriving. OK its the all whites. hopefully I won't be tempted to do a little hacking tomorrow and end up with the new HTC Doorstop.

Nothing wrong with a bit of hacking :P Rooting is pretty safe now, especially with the new method to unbrick bricked phones. A major cause of bricking was people using USB hubs, dodgy cables, knocking the cable out, etc.

Flashing a new ROM onto my Telstra Desire was the best thing i've ever done for the phone. If you get the urge, i've documented how I did it:

Sweet thanks for the tip - just checked with fedex and its in Auckland. Still I think Rooting it today is not a good idea it truly is the night before the morning after. I will read your instructions very carefully!

I was meaning to ask, if you root the phone does it keep the sense UI and all the main apps supplied by HTC?

Yep rooting doesn't change any of the software on the phone. However the method I posted will flash a generic desire rom which gets rid of all the telstra crap.

I think i'll wait till Froyo before flashing the ROM.
Does the fact that we're using the 850mhz NextG model change anything in terms of flashing a new ROM?

Nope. There are GPS issues with some ROMs, but the one I used (link above) is fine.

Oh Boy - I knew I shouldn't have tried to hack it. Anywho its not a door wedge yet. I think I followed the right steps, down load the image for bootloader .75 or lower; run step 1 with gold card; then remove gold card and put in ordinary card; then try step2 and I get device not found.

What have I missed? I should have listened to my own advice. at least it still works I'm going to bed.

OK, It was all my fault - didn't read the versions correctly so was trying to flash with the wrong version. Its flashed now and I'm loving it. Now where do I get swype from again?
