I got this offer in my email recently and selected to go for the double data for another 12 months. Yesterday I got an email back saying I am not allowed to take advantage of the offer!!

Their reason is that I already have double the data on my current plan until the end of the year.

I'm kinda pissed off as if they don't want me to take advantage of the offer, then don't offer it to me in the first place. The other thing is, with this new offer they offered me double data for 12 months. The current deal I'm on only gives me double the data until the end of the year, so now I'm going to have a crap plan come January!

I've been with Telecom for slightly more than four years now, after coming from Xnet's poor (at the time) internet quality, deciding to just pay more for better internet. I was pretty happy with Adventure and eventually moved on to Pro for the extra cap.

Then Big Time rolled around, and I was even more happy - I even signed a 12 month contract happily with the keyboard/headphones deal from a while back. Then when they had to shut down Big Time, I thought, "Fair enough, you can't keep offering services at a loss." and went back to Pro... and was pretty keen to continue with Telecom as my ISP, despite the lack of larger broadband packages. (Going from all-you-can-eat to 40gb a month is a pain! I hit roughly 60GB a month, making Pro $120. :s)

I was extremely disappointed when they offered to double the data for new broadband customers, and only offering current customers (i.e., me) a measly $20 discount *if* we moved onto the Pro plan, and only for three months at that. But this really frustrates the crap out of me... and I'm tired of being a second citizen compared to newer customers.

I think I'm finally ready to move on to greener pastures... if there is any in the farms of the New Zealand internet world.

I feel you Mallas, I really do. I wish Telecom come into this thread to explain themselves or better still the CEO.

So Mallas, you went to telecom, would have received a free broadband connection, free wireless modem at the time, you have since been given a Free wireless keyboard and free headphones, and $60 credit. (All of which there was no obligation to do so)

And you still feel cheated that you didnt get an offer that was directed obviously at signing up new customers.

I don't think a company can win if you have those kind of expectations.

joff_nz: an offer that was directed obviously at signing up new customers.

With exception of the $60 credit, which I assume you mean the credit for moving from Big Time to Pro, the obligation to the free deals you mentioned is the contract that I was required to sign. Their reward for rewarding me when I had first signed up was my years of custom. The two separate 12 month contracts that were signed have passed, so no longer are they relevant to the topic at hand.

These deals aside, one thing to note is that I do not necessarily feel 'cheated'. It's more that I feel that Telecom is not offering enough incentives for their current customers to stay; especially when they attempt to appear apologetic by offering the three month credit for customers moving onto the Pro plan from BT, only to have a large advertising campaign regarding the double data deal for new customers run shortly after.

My only expectation from companies with which I have had a long relationship with is that they would throw me a bone every once in a while to keep me complacent. I would think this is simple enough. :)

I wonder, someone was blabbing about new telecom plans that are coming out shortly.

Maybe that is just hot air?

It must be very hot air, nothing from Telecom about this. But I think is was about the pro plan getting a make over. It's 50c per Meg to $2 a GB. But I might be wrong.

If you've noticed Telecom don't usually like to leak information out before something is available for people to order, otherwise they'd just get tons of calls about stuff their reps couldn't give you yet.

There is a thread over on GP forums about someone getting invited onto a pilot of a new plan/package tho... and one on here...
