@hio77 - Thanks for the quick reply. I didn't know g.inp could be used over copper.

I have changed the dsl cable from the modem to the wall socket already with no change. If the line stats look OK to you then that only leaves a faulty modem or buggy firmware.

Spark have offered to send a new modem - seems like I have to take them up on the offer. It's just that in my experience, hardware is rarely the problem.

Thanks

As per my previous post on this thread, I too have issues with Smart modem randomly restarting on a fibre connection.  I've had a replacement modem sent to me from Spark, but that didn't solve the problem.

I think it comes down to a buggy firmware still. The latest firmware version 6.00.16 build01 however has been a little more stable than the previous build. Modem used to restart almost every other day for me, now it's more like once a week.

I have an older Huawei HG659b from Spark. Can I request a change or upgrade?

Last time I checked, you either pay half the price for the Spark Smart modem (being an existing Spark Broadband customer) or get the new modem at $0, as long as you're happy to renew your broadband service contract with them for another 12 months.

Thanks - I will give them a call and ask. I don’t have any plans to change the service provider.

I had better luck with going into a store. When I rang, they said I'd have to pay half-price for the SmartModem, even though I'd recently moved house. I offered to extend for another 12 months contract, but they said they could only do that when the current contract was expiring.

In store, they said the house move counted as a contract renewal and I should have been offered the SmartModem for free at that time.

I would appreciate advice about managing this connection drop out issue.

Model Name: VRV9517
Firmware Version: v6.00.16 build01

No mesh network.

The issue is causing a lot of problems as I work remotely and require access to a number of instances that are behind a SDP (Appgate)
Everytime it drops the connection (even if it's for a second and it would be unnoticeable to most) Appgate packs a sad and I am unable to access the servers 🥲

I disabled band steering (as I saw it could be related) but the issue is still intermittent.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as this is impacting my productivity a lot.

My friend has 1x Smart Modem and 2x Smart Mesh. On BigPipe.

Modem Firmware: v6.10.14
Mesh1 Firmware: 1.00.08
Mesh2 Firmware: 1.00.04

She has two issues:

  1. The Guest Network only transmits from the smart modem, not the two mesh. How do we get the Guest Network available across the whole network?
  2. Under WLAN > Access Points, I attempt to hit the big green UPGRADE button, it asks for a password, but its not the same password as she logs in to the console as Admin with. The Mesh use some other password?

Anyone able to help please?

Hi All... is this normal?
My router randomly, as far as I can tell, flashes the WPS button (blue light) even if WPS is disabled on the WLAN configuration. It flashes for what seems to be hours.
Havent seen anything in the logs that would point me to what it could be causing it... on that note. Any chance to get the logs sent to a syslog server on the network? I only get 4-5hrs worth of logs on the little screen which makes troubleshooting difficult.

Cheers...

Pablo.

This seems like quite a bug actually.

the wireless setup should replicate what is configured on the modem. hopefully @Talkiet can pass this along to the relevant folk in FOC to pass it up to the vendor (Likely Sean.)

as to the Upgrade, Yes. it has a different password, I'm not sure it's open knowledge as to what the scheme for the passwords are. However, that upgrade button will take you to the upload file page - which won't really help without having the firmware file.

These mesh unit's check for updates every week from memory, it's a monday? just leave it powered up and should sync up next week.

Tape works great for this :)

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

I removed the second issue I had listed - that sorted itself just like you said :)

I will wait for @Talkiet before pulling the trigger on returning the products but Spark Support has currently said, only the modem will broadcast the Guest Network, not the mesh. Is not a bug and is a technical limitation of the mesh products.

00:21:13 Maricel : According to my support team. Smart mesh can only broadcast one network due to it's internal limitation. Our apologies for that.

The implications of this, if true, is pretty poor. Guest Network for the entire customer base using these products will degrade as the person moves away from the modem location into other parts of the house.

I can't believe this can be the answer. Surely not.

Thanks for your help.

Really? Please tell me you are joking. I mean, I did tape the light at the front... but this blue light, by all means, should not be flashing and specially not for so long.

There must be a technical reason for that to happen. Is somebody trying to connect using WPS? Havent found anything in the logs that would point me to believe so. I don't see any unknown MAC addresses. I know those can be spoofed but if they can do that, I'm sure they would be able to get the password too and not need WPS.

What else could be triggering that button's flashing light?

Cheers...

not joking, not really.. maybe a little?, but might I recommend black tape instead? it will let far less of the blue light through....

honestly... my unit does the same thing after a reboot. but it stops after a little while. the modem itself sits up with the rest of my network gear so it barely bothers me.

Why it's actually blinking i forget...

I guess that means it is normal and nothing to be worried about.

Thanks.
