I would have joined up and crossed over from Skinny today, as my Combo was up for renewal, but I didn't after I found out that I would have lost the $30 credit that was on my account. Seems like they should find a way for people to be able to transfer over their credit on their Skinny acount if they want people to join up ASAP.

thinking really hard about this. was on the $19 music pack on spark, but was usually always buying extra packs. so have upgraded to the $29 music. will see how this goes, but an extra 2 gig does sound appealing, plus $6.50 for apple music instead of spotify (student price). hmm, I get the 1GB free socialiser data but only use a few hundred MB a month so this can be offset against the increase in data.

same thing for me, skinny used to have a credit forwarding thing, so i guess coulda forwarded my credit to a friend on skinny and had them pay me back (if they still do this) but had 4 or so hours to org it so i'll just wait a month/months.

seriously though I would have gone straight to these new deals if credit followed over, and i have showed this deal to a few other people that are keen, but then had to tell them not to if they have any skinny credit on their account, and to "wait out" that credit before joining.

TL;DR

Great deal, would join right now, but am already a skinny customer and don't want to lose credit I have paid for, so will join after credit has gone.

Skinny Direct doesn't work in the traditional prepaid way of having to first top up and then using this credit to purchase. Instead you just select what you need and we automatically charge this to your credit card. Therefore the concept of transferring credit doesn't work. We did look at other options during design but it just makes the experience more complicated.

The idea of transferring credit to a friend is a good one and can be used for up to $60 per week. This can be done simply through the app.

Thank you for that. I was just saying there's a fair number of people frustrated at there being this great new service that we can't take advantage of right now. It's a bit of a tease already being with skinny and not being able to pop straight over without effectively paying twice for the same month.

Have to agree with other people in this thread that this would have made a lot more sense for this to be bigpipe mobile instead of skinny direct. It fits in with what bigpipe does already (online only service) and the simplified plan lineup and byo device, and bigpipe's charging works how you describe too - I.e. It's not a 'top up' you just get the fee deducted every month from your credit card.
Because it's still skinny branded, your call center will still be getting calls from people who don't understand the difference, which will eliminate the savings you get from having it online only.

It would avoid the confusion of transferring credit across since it would be more clearly a different brand.

You could have built the features into the bigpipe app, which is great, instead of using a web app which is way less useful than a native app.

And finally it would have avoided the inevitable moaning you guys are going to have to deal with your sales channel partners, from places like the warehouse or jbhifi who will no doubt be complaining that they can't sell this skinny product that is so much of a better deal than the products they currently sell.

I travel in my Motorhome over the school holidays (we're both Teachers) and would love to be able to 'stop' my home BB and slip a Skinny direct SIM into the modem and then be able to travel with it as this would be the ultimate Skinny combo for me to use for those couple of weeks a year when we're on the road...

That should work fine. The Skinny broadband modem is not locked, so you can put any SIM you like in to it. It will only do 4G though, so no good in 3G only coverage. Just beware the sticker the stick over the SIM slot though, so obviously it's "at your own risk" "void warranty, bla bla bla etc."

I did the exact same thing apparently the number porting process starts once you pop in the new SIM but took around 20 hours for mine to change (some delay) if you wanted to check it is all ok you can ring their help desk. The guy who helped me out was great.

All switched over now and very happy

One of the guys at work switched over on Friday and the port took about three hours. The process was:

Swap to Skinny SIM and wait for "welcome" text message
Put Vodafone SIM back in
Wait until connectivity lost (three hours)
Put Skinny SIM back in.

I ported my personal number across on friday. I ordered the Skinny SIM with a new number and placed it in another device. I couldn't find the option in the portal to start a port, so I had to call up to have it done. After that, the process was pretty quick.

My main dislike right now is the app. On my 5x (running 7.0), I can't scroll up or down, only the balances can really be interacted with. On my iOS device, the quick buy is partially cut off and doesn't allow you to scroll either. Seems like it could be fixed with a little CSS. But overall the experience feels clunky with it not being a native app.
