4. havn't seen mention or complaints

5. no contracts

6. you can bring your own (refer to 3 for speed limitations. needs to be adecent router to work at gigabit)

7. one off charge of $45.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I just found on their website information about the static IP addresses. If I am on a CGNAT IP Address which I imagine exits Bigpipe in Auckland then all of my traffic will have to be routed via Auckland. Would you happen to know that if I get a static IP does this allow my traffic to route normally e.g. for my IP to be based in Dunedin?

Thought this might be the case and it is something that I was hoping to get away from this time around. No biggie though, the 20 dollars credit and two months free are pretty compelling to a student. Think of all the extra money for beer!

After a little more thinking, can we get any more recent/up to date speed tests from Dunedin? I see that the majority of tests are from Auckland.

unsure why it matter?

with a properly setup connection and devices you should be able to get the speeds others are seeing.

the ping from Auckland to Dunedin is about 20-28ms.

what are you doing thats ping critical? if its gaming the servers are generally overseas so the traffic gets routed through Auckland anyways as thats where the overseas cables are

Fair question. From what I could see it seemed like the two speedtests on this thread from Dunedin were both people only ("only" haha) getting around 400 Mbit/s (I could have misread). I just wanted to make sure that it was a problem on their end and not typical for BigPipe to have these lesser speeds in Dunedin.

as pointed out earlier everyone on a "gigabit" (cant call it that these days) should be able to get 700-900mbps. If you have a properly setup connection, router and a device that can handle it then you should be able to get around the 930-950mbps mark.

you will hardly ever see that in the real world.

those with lower speedtests either have a router that cant route at higher speeds or a device that doesnt support those speeds

Appreciate the input. We currently have gotten up to around 930 Mbit/s so I expect that this should continue after we make the switch.

correct

but juse be aware that UFB is a shared resource, there is about 2.5Gbps of downstream bandwidth shared among up to 24 customers. so you could potentially only get 1/24th of that depending on what others are doing. That assumes that all house who can get fibre have fibre and that all are downloading at the same time.

It seems for me steam downloads are pretty slow compared to others on this thread.

Not that I am complaining too much - it is still fast (and people on ADSL / VDSL will be telling me to shut up). My only assumption to why it'll be slow on my end is location (Wellington) combined with my games drive not being a SSD but instead an enterprise grade hard drive - still doesn't explain it much as I can write to that at around 200MB/s.

Sorry Jase, this is simply not true. I still have a job in at Bigpipe (Since I changed to them in September) and there is something wrong with the connection to Dunedin. Last I heard they told me they were "trying to sort it out with their wholesaler" but didn't have a resolution. So I am still stuck with around 500Mb/s I am not ecstatic about the whole thing but because they are cheap, and I get a Static IP I am accepting of it.

Yes I did used to get above 900 on Vodafone

its not wrong though you SHOULD get that sort of speed if you dont then the connection isnt setup properly or your router or device that can't handle it. exactly like i said.

If you cant get those speeds because of an issue with your provider then you you should be houding them, and/or you should be laying a complaint as they shouldn't be selling a product that in no way shape or form can do "gigabit"
