tardtasticx:  its not like it can get any slower than it already is... I hope

Don't count on it.. and don't jynx it. it could be slower, but not by much.

So much for port 80 being prioritised though.

What a load of Sh*t

I'm on big time with no real issues so i don't know what everyone is complaining about (though i don't you tube a lot).

Why does everyone expect so much out of such a cheap unlimited plan? If you need speed more than anything else don't go with Big Time.

Yes they say they prioritize port 80, but that doesn't mean you'll have all the bandwidth you need to stream 24/7.

.. yet P2P at 1mb/s, even though HTTP takes priority over P2P?

Come on, think it through.

1mb/s is not that fast, it is also coming from multiple connections (including possibly local ones).

A friend was able to watch 2 ustreams at the same time on their bigtime connection - thats a win for anything as far as I am concerned.

I think you mean MB/s (capital B means Bytes, small b means bits). 1mb/s is the same as saying 1mbps.

The probiblem will be that they are most likely shaping their services based on connections, since services like youtube do not use more than 1 connection it will most likely go slow compared to other services ie torrents which multiple connections.

ajobbins: Having major issues on Big Time tonight. Uncached YouTube videos are unwatchable, TVNZ On Demand is unwatchable.

I've had the same issues with the TVNZ site, but have tried from a few different ISP's and it seems to be the site, not the connection. Anyone else find this?

Aaroona: hmm, alright. I do understand what you're saying. This is one of the reasons why unlimited plans wouldnt work too well, is because people would just naturally download stuff for the sake of it, which in turn causes congestion at time where it isnt needed etc etc etc.

Anyways, I might start a new thread to see what router would be appropriate.

Thanks.

Funny you mention this as I was just checking my Big Time usage and the first month was 100GB the second was like 56GB and last month was 21GB so after the novely wore off, I've ended up doing exactly the opposite of what your saying people do... Not that I disagree, as logically you think when a service is free people waste it. I remember when BK came to town with FREE refills... Oh the madness

The great thing is not having to worry about a cap.

Telecom have never shaped traffic based on the port, it's always been done on the traffic type.

Un-usable from my Telecom connection.

Used to be perfectly fine on Orcon.
