I ported my personal number across on friday. I ordered the Skinny SIM with a new number and placed it in another device. I couldn't find the option in the portal to start a port, so I had to call up to have it done. After that, the process was pretty quick.

My main dislike right now is the app. On my 5x (running 7.0), I can't scroll up or down, only the balances can really be interacted with. On my iOS device, the quick buy is partially cut off and doesn't allow you to scroll either. Seems like it could be fixed with a little CSS. But overall the experience feels clunky with it not being a native app.

Edit: set correct android version

Could you possibly mail me some screen shots highlighting the issues you have with the app (and note the device on them as well).

Sure, where would you like me to send them?

Batwing: Yeah the skinny app knows I'm on skinny and very quickly shows me my balances without any extra effort logging in. The skinny direct app doesn't even feel like an app, more of an icon to a slow to load advertisement, definitely a step backwards.

We have just launched a new version of the app.  When you are connected with mobile data this will now log you in automatically.  On WiFi you will still need to log in once but after that it will be automatic.

This is now live on Google Play and being loaded on the App Store.

russelo: I received the sim card and pop it into my phone.
do i have to do something else to get the number porting started?
when will my number be ported over?

The port in request will be submitted in first 5-10 minutes once the SIM is activated and the approved time will be an hour after submitting the port request.  We are then also dependant upon the timing from your previous provider so it is possible that there will be further delays but in most cases the port will be complete within a couple of hours of activation.

Is the mailing of the Skinny SIM tracked when they send it to you? I.e Can I track the delivery status?

Is there another way to get a sim i.e purchase from a shop if I want to port my number?

Also is skinny ever going to consider a package deal if you have broadband and mobile with skinny?

regards

To add to above post there isn't a way to order another soon sim i can find apart from blocking it and reporting it lost.

Would be good to be able to order somehow as I've needed spare sim cards from time to time accommodating various sim sizes. Or damaged sim cards.

"We have great value packs to call or text 23 other countries, or you can use our great standard rates to stay in touch."

Where can I find these "standard rates"?

A coworker has added $10 of "Extras Credit" to his account but can't send texts to Canada (iPhone reports "Not Delivered"); surely they don't cost more than $10 each!

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

International standard rates can be found here.

A text to Canada would cost $0.20.  To start with I'd suggest turning iMessage off and trying again.

Thanks. That page seems to be very well hidden though! Perhaps you should link to it from the Extras page where it's referred to.

Turning off iMessage didn't help, but apparently he's logged a ticket with you guys so I'll leave it at that.

Yes, the email address used to sign up will receive a track and trace email once the SIM is sent.

No Skinny Direct is online only.

Also is skinny ever going to consider a package deal if you have broadband and mobile with skinny?

We are constantly reviewing our plans and offers so I can't answer that question at the moment.

LivingSkinny:

Hey Everyone

We've got some news - this morning we've launched Skinny Direct!

It's a new mobile service by us at Skinny Mobile, but it's only available online at skinnydirect.co.nz

It works in a similar way to our broadband service in that you just add your debit or credit card upon sign up which then repurchases your Combo automatically every 30 days.  So no more top ups!

We have 2 Combos available, a $30 Combo with 3GB data or a $50 Combo with 6GB data.  Both Combos also come with unlimited NZ calling & texts and free voicemail.  Does that put a smile on your dial?  We hope so :)

How do we manage such data amounts at those prices?  Well, by going direct to us we don't have to pay extra things like rent, commissions etc and we think the people who take this up would most likely prefer to self serve rather than calling us anyway, so we instantly save dollars there.  And they go back into the plans.

Give it a go and tell us what you think!  Only available online at skinnydirect.co.nz or from the Skinny Direct app in the App Store and Google Play :)

just wondering , am i able to switch between the combos from login/app ?

thanks

Do you mean switch between the $30 to $50 Skinny Direct Combos?  You can but remember that when you select to purchase you are charged and your renewal date starts from that time.  Quota then lasts for 30 days.  Therefore unless you have run out of data it is best to wait to the end of your 30 days to switch.

Does the app let me login once and see several sim cards? That is the one thing I like about the vodafone app over the 2degrees one, no logging in and out, just add the other sims to the login and see and manage them all at once.

The Regular Skinny website lets you link accounts and see them all in one place, but not Skinny Direct.
