Are we still on track for an early reboot tomorrow (Tuesday 12th June)?
Yep, network changes start early tomorrow morning (from 4am). Don't think I've ever had to set an alarm that early before..
Note that not all changes will complete on the 12th. The changes are being staggered by region, and we aim to complete all work by the end of the month.
mdooher:
Let us know if you get any speed changes... fastpath is supposed to work on PPPoE but even on my RB3011 I'm seeing a definite slowdown
Finally managed to get it switched after they had to adjust their end.. looks like speeds are around the same on my hAP ac 795.95 d / 471.77 u

cheers, something is certainly wrong with my connection then it's down around 300d/400u
Matthew
Sorry to hear you're still having problems Matthew; you're in a region that hasn't swapped over yet so it'll be an unrelated issue. I'll have a look over the case you've already got in with us and touch base with you via email shortly.

Dates of the planned work by region below. Tauranga has been completed.
Please take the following with a grain of salt, as there is the potential we'll need to amend the dates. :)
12/6 - Tauranga
14/6 - Palmerston North
19/6 - Hamilton
20/6 - Christchurch
21/6 - Dunedin
25/6 - Wellington
28/6 - Auckland
Just a note: Please take those dates with a grain of salt. Some of them refer to greater coverage (or smaller) areas than their names imply.
As an example, whilst "Tauranga" is listed as complete that refers only to UFB. ADSL and VDSL for Tauranga will be included on the night for the Hamilton work.
My views are my own, and may not necessarily represent those of my employer.

No internet connectivity around 530am for Riversdale Beach via Masterton BigPipe connection.
Latency pretty much the same for beach connection, presumably all traffic still via Auckland, except for 2talk which had challenges during the day, but Spark fibre in the city also had challenges to 2talk throughout the day. Spark DNS not yet available on BigPipe connection. I'm guessing our beach ADSL2 connection is in with Wellington 25/6 for the exciting big BigPipe latency improvements?

Woofjeb: Is there a date for Invercargill/southland?
Not a specific one for the region, no. Highly likely to be 21/6. As cbrpilot mentioned, the coverage areas can vary a bit in scope so should be taken with a grain of salt.

That's no good. We haven't made any changes on our end for that region yet. It might be a case of the copper gremlins (moisture getting into places it shouldn't) due to the winter weather. It'd be best to get in touch with our support team about this so we can investigate.

Sounds like a good guess to me. Do keep in mind the varying scope of coverage, though. :)
@nossi I don't think anyone is going to guarantee any improvements in latency. While your first IP hop will be much closer to you, routing to many locations may not improve as most domestic traffic (to outside the Spark network) will continue to flow through Auckland.

Thanks, looks like BigPipe are all good.

Palmerston North seemed to go without a hitch today, connection dropped around 4.30am and was back up and running about 10 minutes later. Well done to the network team working on this!
Glad to hear it! :)
