Read carefully back through the thread (or just read the next sentence). I dont actually own a 6255, although I will buy one soon when they come back onto the market.
Taniwha,
You might like to add these to your list or make me a phone tester lol

Re: Nokia 6255i
Dear ??? ,
I am putting down on paper some concerns over the operation and or programming on the new Nokia 6255i phone. I think with a bit of a firmware upgrade it could be so much better.
Let me first say that the phone is a little beauty with features to burn. The Nokia PC suite is excellent, the automatic Bluetooth is great the sound quality is excellent through the Nokia head phones supplied and generally I am pleased the phone.
BUT if the items hereunder could be looked at it would function so much better.
1/- Firstly I discovered very early on that you could allocate a ring tone to a group but not an individual contact. I find that the character of the phone would be greatly improved if you could do this. One of the first things I did was to get my son to say “it's me dad pick up the phone” as a recording and try and attach it to his contact. And if you could allocate a Star Wars ring tone to a contact that was a Star wars nut or the Nokia theme to the Nokia rep etc etc. You would sell many more ring tones and the phone could be a lot more functional if the phonebook could be used in this way!
Solution: Simple, make “Open Gallery” a listing in the options>custom tone>ringing tone list as it is in the Settings>tone settings>ringing tone>select open gallery, list. I can't see why a phone of this capability can't retrieve any tone from any folder as long as the format is correct.
2/- You can't save texts etc to the drafts folder from the inbox?? Why can't we have access to all the folders Archive, drafts, templates? So we can be organised.
Solution: Give access to all folders even created ones on the MMC card.
3/- You can't choose to have the first line of a txt shown like in the drafts folder and templates folder in the Archive folder. This is why I save to the drafts folder. I have found a long way around. We generally want to preview the message not see which number it came from.
Solution: Add a setting which we can choose how the content in the folders is displayed.
4/- My Folders?? The manual says we can create folders etc and save texts to this. But I haven't found any options menu that gives you access to this folder so you can save to it??
Solution: Add this to the save menu options would be most helpful.
5/- The manual (page 30) says there should be a folder in the list that is “saved txt messages”. Where is it, it's not on my phone. Menu>messages>txt messages> no “saved txt messages”.???
Solution: Set the phone up as in the manual, it would solve a lot of the above problems.
6/- The track list in the media player is only 200 long. I have a 1 gig Mmc card and the track list is far too short. Gives random selection, a very small bracket to choose from. Surely this could have been forecast with the size of cards available on the market at time of release.
Solution: Expand track list to 600-700 songs or indefinate.
7/- Tunes don't fast forward etc. When you go in to Gallery> MMC> folder> .aac track.
Solution: Make Music player fully functional when starting any Mp3 or acc file. Let us have access to all areas where mp3/acc file might be stored though the options menu in the music player.
8/- When selecting a folder via gallery the player will only play that one song. Should play all in the folder after all Nokia PC suite automatically creates folders in Artist and album order yet it won’t play an album through. It will “open in sequence” the whole folder and give a preview the songs but then not play full songs in the folder. Doesn’t seem logical??
Solution: Make Music player fully functional when starting any Mp3 or acc file. Let us have access to all areas where mp3/acc file might be stored though the options menu in the music player. And make the track list change to what’s in the folder selected when going in via Gallery menu.
10/- When playing tunes via Gallery>MMC card>folder>aac track etc the light stays on permanently. The one time you want to select an album or folder of songs, start it playing through and put the phone back in your pocket the light stays on to drain the battery. This is completely opposite to all other areas where the light goes off after a few secs. Doesn’t make sense.
Solution: Give us the option to make light stay on or off when flip is open (se item 12) or program this area same as rest of phone.
11/- No Access to the MMC card associated stored music files through Music Player. Why do we only get the songs on the track list? Why can't we use Music player as a general player??
Solution: Add access to MMC folders through Music player menu. This would go a long way to solving the above points.
12/- The backlight can't be set to stay on when flip is open
Solution: Add this to settings> phone settings menu
13/- The sound button on the side has to short a delay before recording sound segments. I keep ending up with recordings of nothing by accident in my recordings folder. Takes up unnecessary memory and is a pain.
Solution: Make the delay longer or change to double press or something else.
14/- The wording on the screen should change colour like on a computer when the background is dark or you should be able to set a colour. Having a phone that is promoted as picture cable in this way is a complete waist of time if you can’t read anything on the screen when it is there.
Solution: Make print change colour or be able to set a colour.
15/- The sound from the bottom port with the Nokia supplied headset is great but the sound through the headset port on the top of the phone is poor by comparison. Why have tried 2 sets of head phones in telecom shop and Sony etc in electronic shop.
Solution: Look to make sure the sound reproduction within the 6255i is same for both ports.
I have not had the phone for very long so have only dealt with the contacts, music player and general function haven’t had a chance to get into Scheduler, to do list, Camera or Bluetooth connection areas in depth. But it scares me to think what I might find given the above list. I am a bit disappointed in the programming I must admit.
Most of the above seem to be fairly simple issues, mostly about access to folders within menus. The absence of “saved txt messages” folder as described in the manual is very sloppy. It seems to me that whoever was responsible for testing/programming hasn't been very thorough.
Overall: Great phone but could have been so much better so easily.
I'm a little curious about some of the issues you have stated Reckless as here's a few experiences that I have had that conflict.
1/- I have a different ring tone for when work calls me - I went to their addressbook entry and under the details selected options. Menu option #11 has "custom tone"
4/- On my phone "My Folders" is menu item #8 under "Text Messages"
6/- Remember that officially there is a limit on how large the MMC card is that it supports and that is there for these sorts of anomalies. Yeah, you can put in larger (I have a nice 256MB Kingston one that works perfectly) but there is no support for it.
7, 8, 10/- The Media Player serves for this purpose. The gallery is more for previewing and looking at saved images, etc.
11/- I have access to all my AAC files through the Music Player - no matter where on the MMC it's stored.
15/- Have we found out whether it's definitely a stereo plug or if it's just Mono? (Someone take the time to play a song that has left audio different from right audio?)
I also think that while there are some key design flaws, we should be looking at the issues/bugs as opposed to these design flaws (stuff that behaves different to the manual probably fits under bugs so I think are valid).
Just out of curiousity, where does it say that this phone is the Nokia 6255i? What's the code these days that will report the firmware version? Many of the ones on the web just report the model number and I'm interested in what firmware differences we may have.
1/- Agreed you can alocate a tone out of the list but if they added the "open gallery" into that options list (as in the other menu mentioned) you could add custom tones or recorded tones that fit that contact. Ie the funeral march for your work, or record your boss saying "get back to work" lol and alocate that to his contact. Wow would the phone be versitile then!! If the phone can play a tone from the std nokia selection why can't it play any tone from the tones folder for any contact. All we need is "open Gallery" in the list.
4/- But how do you get to "my folders" when in a txt and you want to save it say to a particular persons folder you created, or a jokes folder?? Go into your inbox and open a txt then try and save to "my folders" not much use to us if you can't put things in it.
6/- Agreed but I am thinking that there should be facility "if Possible" for larger cards. Bearing in mind this phone was promoted as an mp3 capable player. My opinion only but I think that the limit set was a little low given the size MMC cards available on release and if the phone is under going a firmware upgrade hopefully they can look at this.
7,8,10/- I think my queries concerning this area comes from the fact that the track list can't list many of my stored .aac files and my answer to 11. Which is why I'm trying to play the songs in the folders via the Gallery that don't appear on the track list
11/- I cannot access anything but the playlist when going in through music player. Do not have an option to access the MMC card I.e. Media>music player>options there are five options, Track list, Play options, Media equaliser, send, memory status, I can't find how to get to the songs in the music folder i have created on my memory card via Music player?? And I cant find how to vary the track list to include different variations of all the tunes I have saved either. If my phone is different or I'm missing a way let me know.
15/- Shoudn't we be being told by the manual or the manufacturer what is what. Not experimenting with different stereo tracks to try and guess what the plug does. It just says headset in the manual but I can't find out anymore. Is it a stereo head phone jack another voice/speaker plug. I hope it is a stereo headphone jack as I think the bottom plug preforms all the other tasks admirably and I am scared of risking the more expensive nokia ones getting dunked when Im listing to music in the spa. Like to get a good walkman type set for these times but the ones I have tested sound rubbish in the top port compared to the bottom port. And I have worked all day with the radio going through the nokia ones winding under my t shirt and my earmuffs, voice activated turning the radio on and off and answering calls, very very good system in that regard A+++!! I know I'll have to get a bluetooth set.
You Say: "I also think that while there are some key design flaws, we should be looking at the issues/bugs as opposed to these design flaws"
I strongly disagree when does a "key design flaw" become such a pain it is a bug. It has been stated here that the engineers are over and looking at the issues, surely they are interested in all feedback to improve their product. Especially if it only entails software changes when it looks like the already sold phones have to go back anyway. "Do it Once"
And you are quite correct looks like the phone here is the 6255. My terminology! comes from waiting for release for 6 months and the overseas model number or predicted number burned into my thinking.
Great feedback and debate. Id love to be wrong on a few points and discover the phone works in the correct way. Posting it seems to have been the correct thing to do if we can get the issues sorted we might stand more chance of getting things upgraded. I cant see why any of the things in my letter can't be looked at fairly easily.
4/- But how do you get to "my folders" when in a txt and you want to save it say to a particular persons folder you created, or a jokes folder?? Go into your inbox and open a txt then try and save to "my folders" not much use to us if you can't put things in it.
If you create a folder then go to message>options>save the created folder/s are at the bottom of the list
I have a problem using bluetooth. i cannot turn it on. on the menu it shows it as on, but it is not also unable to select any of the options on the bluetooth menu. nothing works.
Good one brad
I did that and the folder was in the list. Created a folder called jokes and saved a txt to it! Was that in the manual.
Do I need to RTFM more closely or did you suss that by trial and error.
only thing is it would be good to be able to change the folder to preview the txt like in drafts or templates then we could tell what the jokes or txts where without having to open them to find which one we may want to say: not add to the list cause we have it or forward or delete. So I'll let that point in my list stand
Thanks though now can at least sort things a bit more!!

taniwha - the connectivity>bluetooth menu. i cant select anything i.e when highlighting a menu entry and pressing select nothing happens. entry #1 says bluetooth on. however it is not and i cant turn it off or on.
reckless - i have owned nokia forever and that is the way it has always been. not sure if in manual or not. u can rename the text to something you would recognise.
The biggest problem i have with the phone is being unable to receive mms messages. it just doesnt work. i had this problem when i first got the phone and i took it back and the dealer replaced the phone, now 3 weeks later it is doing it again. very fustrating. but i love the phone a lot. its just a few issues making life annoying
i went in today and they suggested that i wait as there would be a software fix before the end of the month. i also took a list of all the known bugs in and they and was told that they were aware of them all and had been told the fix would cover all of them, also said the phone was improperly tested before release
it sounds an awful lot like lip service from the store concerned. i certainly dont know anyone who is prepared to commit to a date for the fix to come out, nor for what will be in the fix.
I was talking to the manager of more mobile, he asked for a copy of the list....also said they were being kept updated on what was happening with the phone and were told to expect the fix by months end. was not to buy a bigger mmc card till the fix was realeased, not sure why this would be.....any ideas?
brad - because my manual says it only support up to 64MB cards.
I haven't heard of any problems with this phone, but devices are known to fry MMC cards when they malfunction.
i can only wonder what is up with nokia - releasing this phone before it's ready - and taking so long to release it too. What a mess their QA must be, as well as the software behind it. I hope they learn a trick or two from this, and don't just leave cdma in a huff like another manufacturer.
A lot of the fault must lie with telecom though. arent they ones who put the phone through testing? from what i heard there was no proper bug reporting during the testing phase
