tardtasticx:  its not like it can get any slower than it already is... I hope

Don't count on it.. and don't jynx it. it could be slower, but not by much.

So much for port 80 being prioritised though.

What a load of Sh*t

Telecom have never shaped traffic based on the port, it's always been done on the traffic type.

Well, I can only assume it is TCP HTTP. Trying to stream from Winamp. It run's through port 80.
it connects to: http://scfire-ntc-aa01.stream.aol.com:80/stream/1074

Well, I'm convinced its a traffic manging issue.

I've been able to stream my internet radio for the last 75 minutes using the exact same method as I've been trying to use, and it has not jumped or buffered once in that whole time.

I'm actually having a row over email with someone from telecom, I said "I suggest you throttle all speeds on bigtime to 1mb/s and make it stable (mega bytes/second) and constant, not this 8megs one hour then back to dial up the next." he replyed "we cannot do this as it would cost to much". So they cant give people unlimited broadband at 1MB/s for $60 a month (or it is 70?) but you can afford to pay your ceo $5m bonus'? Quite selfish really..."

Anyone know the email for their ceo? Wouldnt mind having a little chat with him...

well, mine has been running at a constant 5 meg to sydney on a speedtest and 6 to 7 meg around nz since they fixed the international issue. there was a small hiccup last saturday night but apart from that its been np.
it could also be congestion in the states or where you are going to as well, after all, telecom have no control over overseas networks outside their own, links across countrys can overload or go down which causes routing problems.
Did you try doing a tracert to the site you were trying to get to when you were having problems to see where the actual congestion was ?
if you do a test to telecoms own speedtest and its fast then the problem is more than likely elsewhere.

Trying to get the CEO involved is a largely pointless exercise. If it did manage to land on his desk what do you think he would do with it? He would send it back down the chain anyway

What you need to do is get a friend who works for Telecom to remove all port shaping and traffic management. Since that happened for me I havent had a problem at all.

THats has to be one of the most rediculous thing I have heard.

You're telling me, that as a CSR, they have the OPTION to remove traffic shaping on BigTime?

Oh come on. I highly doubt Telecom would give that kind of flexibility to a CSR, especially since there isn't an option to remove it, being offered to customers.

I'd happily pay an extra $20 at most for them to remove that cap, but no more. $80 a month for a service that would cost telecom nearly nothing to deliver.

Oh of course, I obviously don't dispute that. BUT, the fact is, they DONT offer that, which is why I said that Telecom would give the CSR's the option to do so.

But it seems this other user mean someone who is not a CSR.
