All switched over here too, received the Arcadyan modem, I think this is the older model. Haven't setup the Skinny modem as all works perfectly with my old Linksys EA9500, just needed to remove my 2Degrees credentials, and I think I made a change to VLAN.

Generally I dont require technical assistance, and if I do its probably not modem related, so will continue using my trusty Linksys.

Only hitch, initially was limited to 100mbps down, and 500+ mbps up, but after a quick live chat session with Skinny, they advised that I wasn't setup correctly at their end, and within minutes was receiving 900+ down and 500+ up. So if you end up with speeds which are obviously different to what you ordered, you might need to touch base with Skinny to confirm.

I signed up about two weeks ago and was connected on Monday. The router wasn't shipped until yesterday, but it arrived this morning.

My switchover from voyager to skinny was supposed to be today...but now it is 5pm, and no sign of a changeover as yet.

Do they switchover in weekends?

My changeover was scheduled for before 7pm on Thursday. At 6.50 I noticed I had a new public IP address, my Orcon modem was working fine on Skinny. So just connected the Skinny router and all good.

This Skinny deal has given me the nudge I needed to finally get fibre on at the bach - booked in for installation on Monday. We don't really use the internet much down there, but many AirBnB guests often ask about it - even though there is good 4G coverage in the area.

Getting the fibre connected comes with a side benefit too. Being in a remote area, TV reception is only available via Freeview satellite which is only broadcast in standard definition, so it looks a bit rubbish on the 42 inch tv. This is the TV which I thought I was going to have to dump a few weeks ago until Geekzone came to the rescue.

Since ordering fibre, I've also bought a Smartview SV11 dongle to plug into the resuscitated TV to "smartify" it, so we'll be able to livestream all the Freeview channels in HD once the fibre is connected. Plus the dongle has Netflix and Amazon Prime built in, accessible via the bluetooth remote control which is a bonus. And all for the princely sum of $86 (from dishtv.co.nz) which is a LOT cheaper than having to buy a whole new TV - something that seemed inevitable a few weeks ago.

I'm looking forward to telling the Chorus technician exactly how he's going to be doing the installation....😜😜😜

Got hold of skinny, they say i was supposed to be changed over yesterday, but, the network provider simply hasn't done the job.

Everyone missing in action, not at work because it is a weekend.

Almost every time I have changed ISP it has been messed up, so business as usual.    You wonder why they can't have a shared transfer system that the network provider and retail providers all use.

This. I have had messy experiences more than once. It’s never as simple and straightforward as it should be (from a pure end user/consumer standpoint).

  1. Does Skinny support IPv6 yet?
  2. Does one get to own the provided smart model?
  3. Does this modem support parent controls (Time of day) and 802.11AC or where can I see the specs

I just chatted with their online support and they said that the Flexi modem/router is only being used for their 4G broadband customers. Might have to go and buy a better one to use in place of their standard Huawei one.

Can I use my own modem?
No. To snap up the great Skinny Unlimited Broadband offer, you’ll need to purchase the super-speedy Skinny Smart Modem. This modem has been set up specifically to make the most of the network so you get the best speeds possible.

I wonder why they do this, usually ISP's will allow 3rd party 'modems'. They just say they will not support them, fair enough.

Does anyone use a 3rd party modem with Skinny?

I use an ASUS AX3000.

PPPoE Vlan 10

No issues at all.
