Telecoms testing process is very thourough. The handset has been released in many other countries where I'm sure many real world issues were not picked up during the release phase. The one constant here is Nokia.
Personally I wouldn't go for Nokia and haven't since the early 1990's. Seems to me people are more influenced by slick advertising campaings (in fact not so slick anymore either).
Nokia haven't keep up with the rest of the world, and whilst the 6255 isn't a bad phone, it is a Nokia, and if you buy a Nokia, you get a Nokia.
Felix: i kinda agree - most nokia are fashion accesories first, and phones second..
But not in this case. The 6255 is Fugly fugly fugly. Not many would buy it for the look.
Twas the features: Bluetooth, the mp3 player and the promise of faster data speeds that sold the nokia to me.
If Sony-ericsson produced a CDMA with bluetooth, i'd ditch this nokia in a heartbeat
Yeah, I got excited by the idea of GPS in such a small phone myself but the GPS is for E911 services that they are bringing into the states. Apparently by some year they want to be able to pinpoint emergency calls. Quite interesting in a way- http://www.fcc.gov/911/enhanced/
In the Nokia 6255i and 6256i phone, the GPS antenna is
also internal and is activated when placing emergency
calls or when On is selected from the Location info sharing
menu.
it would appear that is just for emergency calls and for other network services.
Yup - the GPS services are all tightly tied into your telco, so they can charge you for the pleasure - a bit like voda's "Where's the nearest coke machine" service.. except more accurate, and including your velocity and other GPS wonders.
(incidently, voda says: if you're in hamilton then your nearest coke is in Greenlane)
it does make me wonder how they can legally require te;cos to pinpoint your location without any line of sight to satelite - GPS doesn't work within multistory buildings.
Hey guys, I have a few customers awaiting the fix for the 6255, who would be the best person to ring to get the heads up on the fix?
Last thing I want to do is get the front desk personel and find out absolutley nothing.
I want to be able to supply my clients with up-to-date news on when their phones will be ready.
Oh yeah, by the way Disenchanted ......
Are you going to sell your "worn out 7400", smile, I'm only using a 4920, boss will not go for a higher model, bugger.
I'd like to look into purchasing yours should the price be right, smile.
u missed out on the deal of a century last week then.
aquantance had a 7400 - couldnt get coverage at home, i said i would give them ANY model they wanted, and they tested every model, and asked for a n361, then gave me their 7400. Since everyone I know around me has the phone they want, I gave the 7400 away (it was almost brand new)
Damn, would you have given me the phone though, we are hardly friends, smile.
Oh, well, you never know my boss might spring for one of those new Sanyo 5600s.
But should you be in a position to flick off a 7400 again, please look me up.
