Hi sep11guy,
I too am presently pondering Slingshot - but this,
http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=81 ,
is worrisome.

Cheers!

Hi User,

Yeah. Bigtime ends 2moro. I still have'nt done anything. the poor speeds i may get if i jump on sligshot worries me.

But if i stay with telecom I may get a ginormous bill for usage and thats even more worse.

So yeah, SO confused right now.

I need more dose of slingshot positive experiences to really make the move

Note that Slingshot's AllUCanEat will only be available to those users fortunate enough to be on Exchanges where Slingshot has unbundled the local loop. They do have expansion plans.

slightly off topic, but that is some pretty shoddy reporting.

"It's not just uncapped internet that Telecom has introduced, then whisked away; in 2009 the company came under fire for cancelling its wildly popular unlimited $10 text plan."

$10 txt was $10 for 500 txts, not unlimited. it is removed because the CDMA network is closing down.  XT offers 2500 txts for $12.  Wish reporters would actually check things. It's almost as bad as the reporting in the Herald.

NonprayingMantis:

$10 txt was $10 for 500 txts, not unlimited.

from memory when $10 txt first first came out it was unlimited ... then some people started sending something like 5000 texts a month, so they changed it

e.g. "About 5 per cent of Telecom customers were text bombing and one of them sent 27,000 texts in a month. That would come with a retail value of $5400, said Kenrick."

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/news/article.cfm?c_id=3&objectid=3564277

Agree, it was a long time ago for Slingshot to be dragging it up ... but it was the case ... just goes to show, anything with the word unlimited gets abused by someone!

yes, but the article said 'in 2009'   unlimited $10TXT disapeared over 5 years ago.

You pay for what you get. Unlimited will be limited in some way, as is not sustainable for any ISP to offer real unlimited plans, as you will always get those customers who will 'pig themselves'. You see at those all you can eat restaurants, people filling up their plates to the maximum. I pay per GB, which I think is the fairest way, and I see that ISPs in the US are now moving that way too. $1 per GB isn't too much to pay.
