Hi,

It doesn't appear that I can get fibre in the next 2 years, I've checked the roll-out map.
So how do I get VDSL2? doesn't seem to be any links on the Telecom page, am I blind or are they not offering it?

I am living at 5 Parliament Street, which is an apartment building.
see how close the green parts are, does that mean I can get it?

The way I read that map, the answer is no you can not get VDSL2. You live in a ADSL2+ area.
To the best of my knowledge, telecom does not have a VDSL offering, so that is why you can not find it on the web site.

VDSL service is not something Telecom currently offer. I do know there are plans in the future to offer it but I don't know exactly when that may be and if I did know I wouldn't be able to talk about it anyway.

I am sure when it does come time to launch an offering it will be posted on here in no time flat :)

You are not in a VDSL area, so if telecom do release it, you have to move to get it.
Generally VDSL comes as part of cabinetisation. When you are close to a cabinet, you can get ADSL2+ and VDSL but as you get further away, its only ADSL.
Telecoms goal is to provide 10mbit downstream so if you can already get that, VDSL probably isnt coming.

You can move house, and get VDSL from another provider today if you wished.

I doubt the VDSL rollout will be expanded in the future because of UFB.

VDSL2 has been available for well over a year now and there are plenty of ISP's that offer the service. Telecom retail however is not an ISP that offers it.

VDSL2 is also far from being a dead duck - you're ignoring the fact the focus of UFB in the first 5 years isn't residential, this occurs in years 5+ so it'll still be at least 5 years before the vast majority of homes will have the ability to connect to UFB.

VDSL2 is available now, I have at least 5 connections I look after ranging from around 30/10mbps to 50/10mbps connectivity. It doesn't look like your covered as there has been no cabinetization in town. You sure there isn't a provider already offering fibre based services in your building? Quite a few apartment buildings have that.

Thanks guys, I didn't know cabinetization hadn't happened in my area of the city. I'm right next to the High Court. I can actually get 16-18 Mbps on ADSL2, but those VDSL areas are less than 500m away, so I was hoping my performance would be stellar, but if I'm not in the VDSL area then I can't really justify a move.

Zeon, I'm in a very old building and I'm pretty sure we don't have a fibre connection...
what providers would offer fibre to apartment buildings?

The age of the building shouldn't affect whether its there. For example I think Orcon used to run a service where they had fibre to a switch in the basement and the various apartment could connect in at 100/100mbps on specialty plans. Not sure if that is still going. Maybe ask the building manager?

From my calculations I'm actually 75m-100m approximately from the Anzac Ave 'purple rectangle of VDSL'
so there must be a cabinet somewhere close-by otherwise how else are those people getting it.

How much do the pre-qualification checks cost?
Anyone had one done?

Had many done and they are all free. Talk to Unleash as they are very good at figuring out unusual situations.
