Hi all

Until recently, my DSL rates were high 16mbit downstream and 940 kbit or so upstream. Attenuation was 21db and noise 11db

I noticed a few weeks ago it was 12 mbit down and about 800 kbit up. At that time, the attenuation was 37db and noise 12db

Last week Chorus decided the issue was a network fault due to the linetest, and no need to visit, but they did and said it was the jackpoint which they fixed. Then the connect rate was 14mbit. Attenuation 21db and noise 10.6db.  A little odd as I thought it would at least go back to the very consistent high 16's as above.

Tonight, its 9473 kbit down and 791 up. Attenuation is 38db noise is 13.9.

I'm a bit miffed, as while the speed has been slower but still seemingly stable, I am concerned over the high level of variability.

For the experts I've seen on here on this topic, is this variability typical of anything network related, moisture related or anything else?

Stats are below as of tonight, modem is TP-Link W8960N, was a DLink 604T , then Thomson TG585 v7, modem stats always been very consistent. No changes in any phone/modem related hardware here. Have a splitter, with filter on that jack for the cordless. Isolated cables, filter, etc as per usual with no change.

Tks all

Sounds like your line condition is indeed fluctuating. You can see that your current SNR Margin is 13.9dB - which is well above the target SNR Margin of 12. What that means in English is that when your modem last resynced the line was significantly worse than it is now, and if you restarted it now you'd get significantly better.

Now that it itself doesn't explain why the line condition is fluctuating up and down. Suggest you do the normal isolation tests etc that you've probably been told about. Call Telecom and log the fault again, and hopefully they'll be able to get Chorus to look at it again. At the end of the day some variation throughout the day is normal, and it is entirely possible that Chorus may come out and say "Yes understood it's fluctuating, but it's within specification".

My views are my own, and may not necessarily represent those of my employer.

Hi CBRPILOT

Yes, done all the isolation tests, I've checked the ETP and its not secure, or sealed, so I will get Chorus out next week when I am home and get them to check and repair that and test. The black cable from there to the splitter inside is one length and in good condition, so if he can check and tidy up the ETP side that may do the trick. It may be that the relatively exposed and roomy hole where the cable goes loosely into the ETP has allowed moisture in, and its now got to the point of causing an issue.
