Hi
I was under the impression data usage was counted on a per-line basis with Telecom, would this be correct? i.e. not per user name? The only reason I ask is because I am away from home, house sitting, and I plugged my old wireless router in and got my static IP- the only odd thing with that is I also left my connection on at home which would also be assigned this IP if going by the login name- which it was. I have since removed the username from the modem where I am house sitting just to be safe (don't know if there are simultaneous session charges with telecom adsl or what)  -  but it would be good to know if I could continue and use my own data rather than the olds' (not that I do much online, and they said I could use it, but if I wanted to use quickflix or something..)

So, my question is, is data still charged at a per line level rather than the user name entered on the modem?

Data is billed at the port / line level as opposed to the username level on Telecom/Xtra.

If you have an old style broadband connection - the static IP and port 25 filtering preferences move with the username. Its different on the newer style (UBA) connections.

And you won't get the same IP address on two connections, simply not possible and I've tried it. Second connection gets address from DHCP pool.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

Telecom use port based authentication. You're simply be using the account and data cap of the person who owns that line, not your own.

If you are of the same BRAS then you will not be able to connect twice with the same static. Different BRAS and you'll connect no problems, but only one of the two connections will pass data. It will have no Billing effects.
