anyone having issues sending to hotmail using telecom staic ip? a collegeue seems to think a whole telecom address block is affected.

#< #5.5.0 smtp;550 SC-001 (COL0-MC4-F17) Unfortunately, messages from 222.154.xxx.xxx weren't sent. Please contact your Internet service provider since part of their network is on our block list. You can also refer your provider to http://mail.live.com/mail/troubleshooting.aspx#errors.> #SMTP#

Yup Telecom have been blacklisted (as per usual it seems these days). Not much you can do apart from get an IP from another provider, if its tricky to do this maybe get a VPS to use as a smart host?

Yup I've just been contacted by a client who sent out their statements to their customers on Friday.
This morning every address that was a @hotmail.?? has been returned with an error.
My client has a static IP with Telecom.
I am looking to change them over to another SMTP service to stop this issue.

Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.

I wonder if smtp.xtra.co.nz is blocked? could possibly use that as an outgoing smarthost on exchange?

smtp.xtra.co.nz doesn't appear to be on any blacklists at the moment so not sure why Hotmail is blocking emails from them.

Everyone should be using send.xtra.co.nz not smtp.xtra.co.nz as that is the preferred SMTP Server to use.

If you're running your own SMTP server and have port 25 unblocked as part of your profile so you can send/receive E-Mails directly then if you get blacklisted then we'll try our best to assist to resolve the issue but really most people should be using the send.xtra.co.nz Authenticated SMTP server which very effectively helps to stop any would-be spammers who are Telecom subscribers.

Generally speaking if you are running your own mail server you shouldn't be using a smart host due to SPF etc. Just use IPs from a range that doesn't get blacklisted ;)

Our individual IP isn't blacklisted and has never been in the last five or so years. The problem here is an entire Telecom IP range has been blocked by one of the world largest email providers and not much is being done about it.

Also had this problem this morning sending mail from our Snap IP address.
Added a route for hotmail.com to go via smtp.snap.net.nz and it is working... :\

Maybe Hotmail is just TREATING our APNIC ip ranges as they would North Korea.. I too have now setup forwarding to a smarthost. Not pretty but at least its working.

My businees email sent through Orcons servers was blocked by a spam blocking service over for about 3 days, where I couldn't send to quite a few addresses using that service, so this sort of thing affects all ISPs. The solution is to have redundancy in place.
