Hello, I'm Nanny, and have just joined this forum. I see there are lots of clever people on here, and hoping someone can advise me).   I'm not very clever when it comes to technical stuff, so please bear with me and help me if you can. .

I own an Okta Agent Clamshell phone,(not on their XT network) from when I had to transfer to Telecom from Vodafone 3 years ago under my Company's contract with Telecom.

My original Vodafone number was "ported" to Telecom and the 021 number was still used, although I was on the Telecom network.

The original contract was for two years.  Last November, the contract ran out and I had to change to a Samsung XT phone because that's what Company policy was to prepare for the XT changeover..   (The Okta continued in my ownership, but of course was unable to use it)

I subsequently left the company, but was able to transfer the account for my personal use and to retain the new Samsung phone.  I still have the same 021 original number on my XT Samsung

So I still have the lovely Okta Agent phone sitting in the drawer not being used.

My son is on the Vodafone Network, with a very basic Nokia on a Vodafone monthly plan.

My question is, Would the Okta Agent phone work on the Vodafone network - if so I can give it to my son. I'm sure he would be very please with it, as it has lots of bells and whistle, camera, video, etc,

I've tried to find out from digging through this website and others, but I'm just getting more and more confused.  (And hope I haven't confued anyone who reads this as well LOL!!

Thank you for any advice you can offer.

Jay

No - the Okta would only work on the old Telecom CDMA network. It wont work on any current carrier in NZ.

As far as I'm aware the Okta Agent is a CDMA mobile, so it would not work at all on Vodafone's GSM network. I don't even think you could reconnect that to the CDMA network as it's due to be shut down very soon.

Cry Thank You Farcus and Peppery!  I was afraid that was the case!  I really appreciate your taking the time to reply to my plea!!  I knew it was about to close down, but it just seems such a waste of a great little phone that it can't be used on another network.  Oh well, another toy for the grandchildren I guess!!

Thanks again
Jay

There are recycling bins at Telecom stores and the phone and battery can be disposed properly without risking the environment.
