Kept losing dsl sync about every hour and half with linksys.
Changed filter, tried different tests and all indicated modem.

Managed to get good price on telecom modem, even though i've seen posted here better modems to get.

Had going for 2 hours, no problems so far.

What did surprise me, is i'm now getting faster international speeds, local about the same. Also web pages loading faster. Ping international is quicker to, on linksys Los Angeles was 700 milli seconds, where as telecoms one 36 milliseconds.

Speed on linksys 5 Mbps, telecom one 10 Mbps Los Angeles. Looks like more wrong with linksys then just losing dsl, so far real glad I changed modems. Both did just over 10 Mbs for national data.

The linksys was about 3 years old.

Edit: looked up speedtest data, on speedtest and saw ping 36 on telecom modem

I'm not sure what you are trying to ask here?

On a side note, I'm also not sure how you are getting 36ms ping to LAX. Isn't that breaking the laws of physics...? i.e. the round trip time from Auckland to LAX is about 70ms due to the speed of light.

This doesn't seem right to me. More than happy for someone to prove me wrong, though. :)

A faulty 3 year old linksys modem is often the power supply failing - does it have an external supply?

Yes. I just lost dsl sync with new modem ouch.

When I was testing filters i left filter pluged in in another room with nothing plugged into it,  didn't think it would make any difference.

Have plugged in new filter that came with modem . Nothing now plugged into jack point in other room, and only new filter and new modem plugged into filter on  other one.

If lose again, it's either something wrong with wiring or exchange. I don't want to have internet that can't last 3 hours so on phone to telecom if lose again

As for the ping time here is paste from speed test.

Since reconnected now getting pings between 486ms and 614ms, something crazy must've been going on before.
I had ip in the 122 range before, where now it's in the 219 range, guess that shouldn't make any difference.

It's from the ipad application one, guess it's different output to website one.

Since reconnected been giving results close to linksys ones. Was getting 10 Mbps at around 2pm, but after 3pm it's now down to same speed as linksys, around 5 Mbps for international.

Just posted cause couldn't believe the improvement in results, now looking like something mad was going on. Got linksys results using same ipad aplllication.

There were some models of Linksys hardware that were not very well matched to the Ikanos chipsets in the newer ISAM linecards.
