Few questions here:
1. What kind of 3G speeds do skinny provide?

2. I heard skinny uses telecom XT, does that mean skinny provide same internet speeds and coverage for internet as XT? (I did check the coverage map, seems good coverage in main cities, but I'd like to know if they are same speeds as XT or trimmed down version/slower speeds like 2degs)

3. What is the difference between XT smart data plans and skinny data plans other than the price difference?

4.Will I be able to get 4G LTE when telecom XT rolls it out in christchurch?

1) Same as XT
2) Coverage is the same as it's the Telecom XT network
3) You can see the difference online compare the plans
4) lol No one is going to answer that question or I bet no one could

Loose lips $4 (40mins/week + 100texts/week) + Addon $8 Data 600 NZ = $12/week

which works out 160mins, 400 texts and 2400mb for $48/month.

2degs is about $39 and Vodafone is about $60 for a similar plan.

Did I get this correct? I'm a little on the budget side but at same time 2degs internet speeds are killing me. Besides telecom xt and vodafone smart data plans start at around $60(even though they are quite good if you have best mate and uses up a lot of mins, 2500 texts and want to score a discount off new handset!!)

In my case I already have a galaxy s2, just need to find a plan with about 1gb data, 100mins and 1000 texts.

If you do need at least a gig per month then the $8 add on is for you. If you could make do with 130mb per week then you could go for the $4 Data 120 Add-on, so a total of $8 per week.

Quick Q... Do you use all your data evenly through the month? Or would you use a lot more one week than the other? Think about it...

I can't say for Skinny but I just did a test on 2degrees in central Wellington and got 4.4/mb down 1.7/mb up... this is faster than my at home DSL...
When I lived in the burbs I used to get closer to 2/mb up 1/mb down.

And you forgot to answer my question...

Ooh yea sorry. hmm I'd say evenly. Because I work 9 - 5 and meetings and training till 9 pm Monday to Friday. So the usage is quite consistent. But then again I usually only use about 600 Mb a month.

I'm in Christchurch and have used both. I definitely have better data speeds on Skinny. That said, on Skinny I'm using a later model phone, Lumia 800, where it was a Omnia 7 before. Not sure what difference this would have on the speeds though sorry.

You'll get the same speeds as XT which is known to have consistently high speed overall.

Sounds good but two degrees could transfer same number over instantly, any idea why skinny can't do it? 3 days with no phone is not imaginable at this stage!!

Being relatively new to the market we are still finalising some of our systems and processes, automated number porting being one of them (work is underway on this). Currently we have to do some of the steps manually.

Thank you skinny for the prompt replies. I would like to move but cannot afford to have no phone for 2 -3 days! Once seamless transferring numbers between networks are in place like they have with two degrees I'll join the party.

My opinion is the call takers at Skinny don't understand the concept of what being without service means. If one rings Telecom XT it is fixed in minutes (4 hours at the most). 2 Degrees also takes days to fix faults which is real annoying to put it lightly. I have no experience on Vodafone fixing urgent faults so i cannot comment on them. However with Skinny it takes multiple calls over days, i had the experience both myself and when transfering friends (most of whom have now moved to another network) 2D was honestly worse. It's really a situation where make sure the process doesn't stuff up because if it does it will take a while with them all.

Disagree. Two degrees have awesome customer service. And best calling rates. If skinny have anything over them it is xt network might have more coverage

Hi, the porting process is as follows

Skinny rep calls to confirm details
Once confirmed we will explain the port will take around an hour so continue to use your current device and number until it looses reception
Once your phone looses reception swap sim cards and your port will be complete.
Using this process there will be next to no downtime

Any delay is just to the point where the rep calls. At the moment we have been clearing them within a business day of receiving the request.
