I'm off to Australia next week and may buy a Telstra Australia 4G LTE USB stick for Internet use [$129 AUD including 3GB] as I figured it may well work over here when TCNZ rollout their LTE network ?

Would this be the case ?

I'd be careful - most Telstra devices are SIM locked.

And it sounds like the TCNZ LTE network is a while away from general availability, so maybe it's best to wait and get newer hardward when the network is ready.

Telecom have to start building their network first. I suspect we'll see Vodafone deploy a live network well before Telecom.

Frequency wise they all will be the same - 1800MHz.

I'm curious it appears that VF Australia provide a usb stick that does 850 here http://www.vodafone.com.au/personal/wireless-internet/mobile-broadband/wireless-modems/usb-pro/index.htm would that work on the TCNZ XT network ?

The later would mean in Australia I get a usb stick with 3GB for $49 AUD that I can use back here on the XT network for 3G data ?

Vodafone Australia have the world's only tri band WCDMA network - they use 850, 900 and 2100MHz.

And you probably won't get it for that price, because the vast majority of devices sold in Australia are SIM locked to the network.

Again, it's likely to be locked to the VFAU network. I think VFAU charge either $50 or $75 to unlock within the first 6 months

Thank you for advising it could be SIM locked !!! [I didn't realise anyone did that anymore]

Why don't you say I won't get it for that price, its what they are selling it for i.e. $49 AUD

I'll ask at the VF shop at the Brisbane airport when I fly in whether since I am leaving after 2 weeks they can unlock it for me [assuming it is SIM locked]

What is involved from VF Aust in unlocking it ?

Thank you for that, it appears if it is "soft locked" then to unlock it is free. I wonder what soft and hard lock means ?
