Got a woman here who is trying to use here telecom Connected iPhone to connect to a VPN.  I think the VPN is IPSEC based with PPTP failover in "special circumstances".  Lets ignore the PPTP shall we?

So she is using her work laptop to connect to the wifi on the iPhone and then on the PC trying to connect to the VPN.  On Telecom it gets timeout and a log shows me a 404 error.

If she disconnects the PC from the iPhone and connects to mine, which is on 2Degrees, the VPN connection connects.

Some specs on the ports seem to be UDP 500 and UDP 4500 and IPSEC protocols 50 and 51.

Has anyone tried what I'm doing?  I can guess the VPN server names but I''m not 100% on them.

Make sure the APN Settings for Tethered Data is set to direct.telecom.co.nz and not wap.telecom.co.nz or internet.telecom.co.nz

I just this morning helped someone with the exact same thing

Awesomely fast response - and yes it was on wap.telecom.co.nz.  Changed and she's going to test it this afternoon.

Just bear in mind that next iOS update may reset it back to wap.telecom.co.nz in which case it will break again. So watch out.
