Can someone tell me if there is a way to check Telecom Broadband usage without any logins/usernames/etc ?
Some isp's will tell you this information easily but i've found if i'm not the account holder myself (when calling) or have the account holder login details (website) Telecom make it very hard to find something so simple as usage.

Anyone?

Why can't you just ask the account holder?

Shows Telecom staff are doing their job correct as no ISP should hand over this INFO unless you are authorised to get it even BB usage

Because they're away overseas.

I would agree with you, but usage isn't something to hide. Orcon do it nicely, their homepage tells you the usage for the account for any user. If you can use MB you should be able to tell how many more you can use.

You need either the Xtra account or a YourTelecom account to check the usage here:

http://www.telecom.co.nz/internet/broadband/usage/

You would need the permission from the owner of the accounts to login as them.

How can you see it unless you are logged into an account?

Because the HTTP request is coming from the IP address that's currently allocated against the account.

edit: similar to how XT MBB usage is displayed immediately upon visiting http://sphone.telecom.co.nz/ without having to log in.

there is a neat little program called traffic usage checker, it supports all the major NZ ISP's and it runs in the taskbar showing your usage as a percentage.

+1 to TUC, it's a great app that I've been using for many years.

Of course it does require the login details, so if you don't have these you won't be going anywhere fast..

Oh I wish telecom also implemented the IP thing (showing based on the connected IP address. I've been asking them and telstraclear for years for API access...but I believe they don't want to, as the current model requires some complexity to automate it, and they like this (stops otoo many automated requests). Well thats the explanation I was given.

It's so useful as an IT Consultant to not need to know a customers login to check their usage, I wish every ISP did it. It's one of the only benefits that Orcon has over say Telecom or VF. Most of the smaller ISP's offer it now.

Hopefully someone who has the ability to add this functionality will read these posts and perhaps make a recommendation to add it for the larger ISPs!
