I noticed tonight that my broadband is quite slow. Checking SpeedTest.net and even with the closest server, I get about 0.5 mbps download speed, and a faster than that upload speed (odd!). I've tried restarting the modem and router, and speedtest on my computer (via ethernet) and my cellphone (via wifi).

I have a feeling that videos have been slower to stream lately, so I wonder if this has been going on for longer than just tonight. But it's certainly extra slow tonight.

Is there anything in particular I should try?

If it doesn't improve over the next couple of days I guess I should contact Telecom.

My telecom connection has been slow for the past week too. I recived a letter in mail from telecom that due to some upgrade they are doing, my along with several other users datacap is not being counted until end of October which means people are downloading/uploading 24/7 on telecom.

Particularly after 10PM, it all turns custard.

Do whatever you want to do man.

Awesome, lol, they're still giving me a datacap, but then again at these speeds there's no way I could hit the limit anyway.

That's interesting to know though, and sounds very likely to be the reason yeah. I guess if it is, there's nothing they can do to fix it, but if it's still slow in a few days it can't hurt for me to call them up and have a whine to them I guess. haha.

What speeds do you get using the following speedtest?

Netusage.iau5.com

Very handy, for forefox, sits in tollbar and beta for Chrome.

OP, please test the above link and post here. Also post your modem stats. WiFi speedtests are not valid indicators.

Have you done an isolation test yet? Do you have a master filter? have you tied unplugging EVERY phone, fax, alarm and plugging the modem to the first phone point in the house then testing against the above link again?

Most of the speed problems are because of internal wiring problems. Please read this discussion to see how much improvement (sometimes even 100%) people can get by solving their internal problems first

Thanks very much! I just gave that link a go and the speed is good (5.67 Mbps up / 0.74 Mbps down), but SpeedTest.net gives me good results now too. I'll try it again in the evening. Perhaps here in little Tuiahiwi there's a lot of downloaders sucking down the net.

Will post more scores tonight :)

Thanks again! I've also bookmarked that thread about internal wiring.

Plus you may be on a conklin which may be impacting your performance at peak times which isn't limited to just Telecom customers.

Connection had been throttled due to hitting data cap, and today is the first day of the new month, so the speed returns?
