I'm a Telecom customer with a mobile data plan off contract.
Vodafone is offering a free iPad with their $80/month 2GB plan on a two year term. Does Telecom have anything to match this?

NonprayingMantis: Free on an 80 dollar plan that normally cost 50 dollars? I'm surprised its even legal to advertise it like that.
2GB is pretty high for tablet usage, most people have wifi at work and home so actually get through a lot less 3G data than they expect. I use a little under 500MB per month and I use my iPad a hell of a lot.
dickytim: I am going to pick up my Ipad today from Dick Smith, I'll put it on prepaid $19 plan with 500mb a month.
myopinion: I purchased a 3G iPad 1 a couple of years ago and hardly ever used the 3G part of it. I would recommend the WiFi version to anyone with a home WiFi network. You probably wont use the 3G as much as you would think, unless you travel a lot. If you've got a smartphone just tether to that when out.

the main reason I want the 3G is for the GPS.
Paul I need to keep the 3G secret from the GF and she pays the Telecom bill!

What's 3G got to do with GPS? GPS runs to satellites not to cell towers. My wifi tab runs GPS perfectly well. So does my car nav system.
Hmmmm
