Does this look like it meets the standard for large diameter bends in telecom pipes.

This is one of two bends another bend not so bad, but this is insane, would require a re dig of garden in future to get fibre up that bend..

not really surprised at this quality of work, given the experience we have had building a new house, seems to be an attitude of whatever, shell be right.. :(

Interested to know what telecom thinks of this.

Hmm well it was arranged via telecom, so i assume chorus. ( chch )

I also asked for the external ETP to be a box that allowed for two conduits ( i have future conduit for fibre or whatever is required as it runs under concrete and they sit side by side),  the guy just had a basic single conduit box that wouldnt fit properly over the the hole where the cables come out of the house, didnt want him to drill that into the bricks as i want a larger one installed correctly.  anyone know where i can get a larger ETP box from?  i'll just do it myself i already replaced a poorly bent green telecom conduit because some muppet was too lazy to use a proper 90 deg bend.

No this was chorus as i stood there and took photos while he did the work speaking on his cell phone to a mate.

They had a nice large blow touch they use to soften the plastic conduit and they bend it however they way.  Of course the guy lost concentration speaking on the phone and the conduit went too soft and collapsed as you can see.  Future fibre up that conduit = no chance in hell.

If it was Chorus and you saw them doing the work and took the photos why are talking about Telecom and posted this thread in the Telecom section of Geekzone?

Because my contract is with telecom. I didn't pick the sub contractor. Move this to a chorus forum if you like.

For residential UFB that's correct. Chorus do copper connections around Chch though.

Although he has now specified, Hard to make the assumption it was Enable in CHC.. To be totally sure one would need to know the area and time of install for CHC. He specifies its a new home. Until Apr 3 areas here are/were BoF based and Chorus areas only :)

Wigram Skies, Sovereign Palms and another area in Halswell I forget the name of.

Enable use red or white conduit as far as i understand for UFB in chch, and we are in an area not targeted for UFB for a while.

The install was done late last week.  Its for copper services.

I was just shocked at the approach taken.

Firstly i would agree the quality of the workmanship is crap - i have seen subcontractors loose their accreditaion for less.

But just to settle some confusion over who is who in these cases

Chorus arent not subcontractors for Telecom

Chorus independent and are one of the two main copper network operators in the CHCH area (telstraclear/Vodafone being the other)

Telecom have requested a network connection from Chorus for Telecom to use to provided services from Telecom to the end user via this connection

There are two Network Service Companys working in the CHCH area for Chorus - they are Transfeild Services and Downer NZ

Depending on which part of CHCH you live in depends on which company is responcible for the network operations (build, Installation and maintainance)

mrhaboobi - If you are willing you can  PM me the dedails of the job and I will look into which company is responsible and pass the details on the the appropriate Quality Aduit Team

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On to the ETP - The ETP when placed on the end of the chorus conduit forms part of the Chorus network and there are currently only 2 types installed - both only have a single entry for 20mm ID telecomunication conduit.

If you want to change this to something else it is up to you (the end user)  - you could buy a box from an electrical wholesaler that would fit over two conduits but dont forget that electrical conduit is 20mm OD so the fittings are not compatable with telecomunication conduits - plumbing presure pipe is the same size but termination fittings are completely different - the chorus ETPs have moulded fittings to suit.
