So have have both an HTC One X and One V (personal and work).  They are both on Telecom. There is a bit of an odd situation I don't get.

I can hold both the X and V right next to each other.  The X will have full bars, but the V will have 1 bar or no reception at all.

Is there an infill frequency that Telecom use that only the X can utilise? 

If location matters, I'm in the Porirua area.
