Can i get a 16 mbit telecom connection ? my current one is 2mbit down 0.39 up

Also can i keep my current data cap which it think is 150 or 200 gb per month if i upgrade ?

The reason im asking is because they don't post there connection speeds on there website... im guessing they're embarrassed. The only provider i could find that tells you there speed is inspire but i don't know if they're good . There speed is 16 mbit but the highest cap was only 100 gb which is a turn off for me.

Firstly, you should have posted this in the broadband or Telecom forum. You would have got an auto reply that would be useful to you. I attached this at the bottom of my post, give it a read.

1) Yes you can get a 16 megabit telecom connection. If you only get 2 megabit down, then you either have a very long phone line, or the conditions of your phone line are limiting you to that speed. You'll have to provide more information if you want to understand what your situation is.
2) Data caps are advertised on each of their plans, there is no difference in speed between the old and new ones, only price and data caps.
3) Their speed is whatever you phone line can go at. There is no embarrassment. This is the same for every ISP.

Telecom has some of the most consistent speeds in the country. When i was with them before swapping to Snap last week, I could get 15-18 megabit any time of the day, because i have a good phone line.
Inspire cannot guarantee you that speed. Neither can any other ISP.

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

Telecom doesn't post speeds because (like most ISPs in New Zealand) they don't limit speeds. Most houses in the country can get a minimum of 10 Mbps. Actually Telecom broadband services are pretty good these days.

If you are not seeing these speeds there are a few reasons that can be explored. As per the reply above, post MORE information including the DSL modem stats requested, where you are, if you know if you are connected to an exchange, conklin or cabinet.

With this information on hand people will be able to help. Most likely though it will be a problem in your wiring at home.

Hi there,

Often we don't actually have speed metrics available to us (we actually just can't find out) and there are so many factors involved with DSL speeds we don't usually lead out with speeds. 2 mbit down is very slow though

As I said some addresses won't have a speed so we can't do much there but the address checker draws directly from the frontline address prequalification system so it's pretty good =)

And if you are with Telecom I can run a line test on your broadband.

If you are getting poor line speeds I am 99.9% sure it will be your internal wiring, otherwise it will be because you live rural and are connected to an old ASAM or Conklin and there isn't much we can do about that unless Chorus are upgrading it under the RBI program.

If it's poor internal wiring I will say get a Master Filter.

If it's because you are rural then you know why. If faster broadband is important you can move or look at a Wireless ISP as none of the Fixed ISPs will be able to offer you anything better than what we offer.

Speed is just not controlled by the ISP when using a xDSL connection, Maybe you are quite a distance from the serving exchange / cabinet and this is all your line is capable of,

Maybe your house wiring is in poor condition and this could impacting the speed as well
