If you have a static IP then you'll need to call to do this specifically.

If turning your modem off for 5 minutes doesn't work then usually I just to turn it off for 8 hours or so (Overnight) and I have a new IP the next morning.

If that still doesn't work you'll need to release your IP address and it depends if your connected directly to the modem or via a router.

I would be asking why do you need to change it?

You won't get a new IP since all our IP's stick to your line. You shouldn't need a new IP unless if you're doing something very dodgy. If you're doing something dodgy you should be using Tor instead.

Lesson for you :) Don't use foul language on games children might be playing haha, but it's no worries!

I suppose this is one of the questions 'if you had to ask, then you don't need to know' answer

cbrpilot: Yes you can change your ip address. Give the helpdesk a call and they can arrange it for you. My experience has been that not all helpdesk staff are aware of this, so don't take no for an answer. If you get nowhere, PM me and I'll get it done

Any time I get a can I change my IP question it's "Why?" simple reason is, even though it is a customer's IP if they're doing something they shouldn't getting banned from services/sites etc. I don't want that IP address going back in a pool for someone else to pickup and have to deal with someone elses rubbish.

Well thats frrom back when I was working there.

While I understand the sentiment Lazarui, many people do have completely valid reasons for getting their IP address changed.

I'm not sure how the process that this customer has asked for is different from having a completely dynamic IP and restarting your modem to get a new IP?

Because more and more companies are moving off that model onto a Fixed IP one, added network security and enables you to track down problems easier.

Usually people want to change thier IP because something has gone wrong and it's a band-aid solution to fix thier problems. Giving them a free ticket to change thier IP addresses all the time can cause it's own issues, not the least of all is encouraging bad behaviours from the users at least with a fixed IP address a user has to be careful what they do with thier connections.

That's my view on it anyway.
