Anyone know where I can get a free telecom prepay SIM?

Currently on 2 Degrees, but keen to try out a telecom SIM (mini) in my Samsung i927, to test coverage in a few local spots in Taranaki (where Vodafone/2Degrees have very poor or no reception, e.g. Okato/Oakura/SH45), before deciding whether to port my number across.

Don't really want to pay $5 for a SIM just to try it, so thought I'd ask around here first :)

p.s. not looking for any credit, just a SIM to try, and maybe later use.

If you are having coverage issues on Vodafone and 2Degrees in that location this is not a carrier issue but related to the handset you are using

You really need a handset that supports 3G on the 900Mhz band

Sorry I disagree John, Vodafone/2Degrees coverage is very poor out towards Oakura and out to the coast, and pretty much non existant anywhere around Okato and further round the coast (parts of SH 45)
Has been like this for years (when I've used a range of devices, 2g/3g, iphone4, xperia pro, galaxy ace, touch pro2), as there is no Vodafone/2D cell sites round there, only a telecom site on Carrington Rd.

I've updated my original post :)

Off topic, but any idea if Vodafone will put a cell site out that way one day?

The sim cards are only $5 to buy, but coverage around that area like John said is limited at best. Buy a sim and try it out, if you want to port your number over you can phone up to do this. Else another option is if you've got a friend on Telecom borrow their sim.
