Telecom occasionally sends me "helpful" texts, things like "when you're ready to travel overseas your mobile will connect with no setup. Call/check website for details". They're not really that useful, they're a little annoying.

How do I stop those txt messages? I can't see anywhere obvious in the online system.

A quick question - What is the shortcode that these are coming from (i.e. 300, 524, 2365, etc) ?

Not sure sorry, I delete them all. I'll post next time one comes through, they're only every week or two so not too bad.

It seems to differ depending what topic the 'help' txt is about - I had 'help' txts from 4 different numbers before i decided to delete them to unclutter my txt history

You should be able to txt STOP to the shortcode to unsubscribe, but if that fails I can check to see who you need to contact / how to unsubscribe from that service.

You can PM or email me (t808000 @ telecom.co.nz - or drop a line to plambrechtsen if that's more comfortable)

I think STOP should work.

If you knew the numbers where it came from, then we can track backwards.

https://pwm.telecom.co.nz/selfserv/alert/online

Is where you can change the online alerts and notifications if you login with your mobile number and Mobile Password.

Turn all that off and see if that stops the spam.

That page says

You can choose to receive the following via text message:
Usage Alerts
Notifications
Urgent Customer Notifications

I definitely want #1 and #3, but I don't know what #2 is.

It is suitably vague. Does 'Notifications' include such useless crap as "Did you know you can make phone calls form your Telecom mobile?". At least, that's how inane all these 'help' texts seem. They should add a 4th category of "Useless spam" to opt out of :P

When you next get one, message me or email me with the number it came from, when it came and your mobile number and we can track the source of the spam.

From 9812: "FROM TELECOM: Just checking to make sure everything's good with you and your mobile. If you need us visit us online at telecom.co.nz/yourmobile".

How do you make it stop?!

I haven't had one for about a week now... dare I suggest they have stopped on their own? Really, though, can Telecom please not do this? It's irritating as hell, and some of the messages are so pointless, or even missing half. One I got was "You'll get notified when you're at 50%!"

Notified of what when I'm at 50% what? One or two welcome txts shortly after the SIM is enabled, fine. A dozen or so spam messages over the first few weeks is just irritating, and has served to counterbalance my positive impression of the move process.

I'm trying to find out how to disable these.

I suspect it may be done via Your Telecom on your phone, then the following steps

Manage Services > Manage alerts & notifications > Update your preferences > untick Notifications

Just need some confirmation that the above is the right place.

I'm also passing on Inphinity's feedback :)

There's 3 ways to stop these:

1) Reply to the message with "Stop"
2) Log into Your Telecom and turn off notifications.
3) Phone the mobile helpdesk (0800323232 prepaid, 123 postpaid) and ask them kindly to turn it off.

Thanks Michael :)

What other notifications is 2) likely to disable, though?
