I got a brand new Telecom VDSL2 modem router  (a Technicolor TG589 vn V2)

(1) How do I turn on SNMP so I can I monitor usage by device / computer
(2) If the router does not support SNMP is there a way to do that in some other way - I been through the settings - the only thing it will let me do is to put time limit on usage. Ofcourse I can monitor the total usage but I want more detailed reporting by computer / device / traffic.
(3) If it is not at all possible, is there another way to do it - for example I got a second wireless router (a Linksys EA3500) - again I cant find a way to turn on the SNMP on it although it is supposed to have it.

Also
(3) How do I check to see if I got the latest firmware and or upgrade firmware

Apparently they have a CLI (Command line Interlace)- e.g. like  this one - but surely there must be an easier way!

Sorry, I don't believe SNMP is available in the TG589V2 as supplied by Telecom NZ. I'm in the same situation and ended up getting a Mikrotik 951G and putting the VDSL router in bridge mode.

I use SNMP and VPN functionality on the Mikrotik and VPN was the main reason for the purchase - performance wise there's no difference.

Before I got the Mikrotik, I used an old Cisco and put 2 eth ports in a bridge group and then took SNMP on one of those interfaces, but that was a stupid way to do it :-)

With the Mikrotik I can graph the WAN port, WLAN interface and both persistent VPN connections I have up. I use PRTG on a spare machine here to do the graphing.

Cheers - N
