I'm currently getting high latency playing World of Tanks. This started about a month ago; previously I would be getting 160ms but this has now jumped up to 270ms. The only way to get a playable experience is to use a paid for private VPN service.

The game server is hosted in Singapore. Running a traceroute shows a huge increase in latency between one of the Global Gateway routers and the Starhub router.

What is the reason for such a huge increase in latency between those hops? Is traffic being routed via the SMW3 cable from Perth to Singapore or is it being routed via USA or Japan?

Would also appreciate it if others could run some traceroutes to this destination so I can compare results.

I don't think the problem is with Telecom - this is taken off a business ISP with tonnes of peering (low ping):
