Hi there everyone
I have recently connected to Telecom Broadband ADSL and am using a Technicolor TG589vn v2 modem. I would like to connect my Apple Time Capsule to this device to enable the TC to be used as the router, and be the access point for my printer, Apple TV etc.
I am relatively uneducated about sorting out these type of issues, but have generally managed to make things work through searching online forums in the past. I don't have an IT background! I seem to have got particularly stuck at the moment and wonder if anyone on this forum might be able to help. I haven't been able to find a specific answer anywhere that solves my problem.
I have tried setting up the modem in bridge mode using the wizard on the modem webpage 192.168.1.254. I then attach the TC to the modem and use Airport Utility 6.3 (on my MacBook Pro, running OS X 10.8.4 Mountain Lion) to set up the TC. I select PPPoE on the internet tab and enter the telecom username and password (user@xtrabb.co.nz and telecom1). I leave the network settings as DHCP and NAT.
This generates an error message saying PPPoE connecting and internet access is unable to be established.
As an alternative, I leave the modem in ADSL mode, and connect the TC to the modem as usual. I set the internet to be via DHCP and the network settings as DHCP and NAT. While this enables me to retain the internet connection, it gives an error saying "double NAT" and from what I have read elsewhere this is not a particularly efficient way of fixing this, and potentially will not work to enable other devices (eg Apple TV) to connect to the TC. I haven't been able to check this as yet.
Can anyone help? IS there a way to setup the TC to act as the router and use the TG modem in bridge mode?
Thanks for your help
:-)
