Hi there,

I acquired the T-stick that wouldn't work on my half brothers computer. As I am due to go on holiday soon, I was wondering what settings I would need (in Outlook) to be able to send emails from my TelstraClear email address while on the Telecom mobile broadband.

Eg. for Vodafone I would change the SMTP server to smtp2.vodafone.net.nz (making sure "My outgoing server needs authentication" is NOT ticked i.e. no username / password required).

Many thanks,
Stevie

Pretty sure smtp.xtra.co.nz will work. It used to.

Either that or sign up for a yahoo account and use their secure smtp (you will have to authorize your Telstra email on that one, but it is no biggie).

edit - if using smtp.xtra.co.nz, it will not need user/pass or authentication (port 25).

smtp.xtra.co.nz unauthorized is on the way out (well we are trying but it's going to be a long road) so either you could create a Xtra Yahoo account as suggested above, or any other authenticated SMTP server you prefer.

I gather from your response that by the end of next week smtp.xtra.co.nz unauthorized will still be available, thus will suit my needs until at least Wednesday next week.

Not sure how to "sign up for a yahoo account and use their secure smtp (you will have to authorize your Telstra email on that one, but it is no biggie)." Not in relation to creating a Yahoo account, but how to authorise my Clear emails through that address in Outlook.

You really just should be setting up SMTP Auth with your mail server of your ISP. I'm pretty sure TelstraClear now offer this to all users.

That will work until it gets blocked. For sending to Orcon mail account from work I use mail.orcon.net.nz and port 587. At home I just use smtp.xtra.co.nz
