I am told Telecom is planning to start a second wave of 4G trials, this time with a broader coverage than before. Unlike the previous run this time mobile handsets will be involved (the original trial was with USB modems supplied by Huawei only). The trial should cover some parts of Auckland and Wellington CBD.

I will find out a bit more later today and post updates here.

It's been no secret in the industry for a while now that the October launch was going to be hard to keep. Last I heard a few weeks back the commercial launch will now be this side of Xmas.

Upgrading hundreds of cellsites isn't a simple process and it only takes small issues with sites to start compounding the delays, something Vodafone have also found.

I have a 4G phone, and I work in the Wellington CDB, so interested. Though the 3G network's pretty fast already.
