Has anyone tried the new 123 Telecom automated service? It does actually work quite well but it takes a bit to get through the options it certainly feels odd talking to a virtual operator. I had a fault with my phone went through the options, after waiting 10 minutes I had to hang up to take another call. I then phoned 123 and rather than going through the process again I simply pressed '0' about 7 times. Hey presto a real, live operator answered immediately!

I am a reasonable, logical, I.T. literate person...

But...

When i encountered the system for the first time last week, after several minutes I was swearing at it, and mashing the keypad.

Very frustrating.

Interesting, with most Telecom IRV's, if you press numbers that are 'not one of the choices we are offering here', you usually end up with 'Thank you for calling Telecom, good bye' or something similar.

I'll have to try the Zero out on this one tho!

I find the new system 'ok' for most things... still a few issues, particularly with mobile broadband which a lot of the time end up at the wrong place.

Well I don't like it, it asked me what my issue was and I told it that i had an issue with my voicemail and it tried confirming that I wanted to cancel my account! Needless to say what followed was not rated below R

It's bad, A very bad move from Telecom's point.

If you call in a loud area it just thinks you are saying things,
It rabbles on that you should really be calling *333 for 20 seconds
It misunderstands you always unless I speak in a fake Australian accent.
The voice is really grating and plastic and we have has so many pokes at the mannerisims to the point of recording it then re-arranging it.. "ti get your mow-byle balances"
If it misunderstands you (which it always does) it will always dump you to 123, not "faults" if you happened to dial 120.

BUT!!!!!!

If you swear at it, it will either dump you through to 123 or you finally get the change to "let's try this a different way, using the numbers on your telephone keypad, please select the options you wish" just like the old days!!!!! OMG

What was wrong with the old method!!!!!  nothing. BAD move Telecom.

Its worked fine every time I have called. The voice on it still talks too slowly tho, guess it has to cope with the less able portion of the population, and having it ask "do you want me to talk slowly for you?" might annoy a few more people ;)

I think that Auckland Co- Op cabs has a system like that. I'm not sure though. If it is the same one, then the cab companies one seems to work well for me. I like it.

Although, it is Telecom, but from what I've read on other GZ forums about Vodafone's service lately, even if this Telecom system didn't work, it would still be better than Vodafone's live operator service.

Well one thing is certain, it doesn't understand "boobs". I tried to vary it with "boobies" but that didn't work either. In the end I gave up & asked for moving addresses or something.

On a related note: Have you guys used the new automated point of sale machines at Pak & Save? They are cool. You touch the screen to do stuff and scan your own food items. It's full of sensors and it can tell that you have put eg a can of cat food in your bag in instead of the toothpaste you just scanned.

I'd be easy to just not scan stuff except for the guard standing watch. It's a pretty neat system. Gives you change and everything.

Why am I not surprised you of all people tried that?

These seem to be popping up all over the western world (not sure about the east). I saw a Fox News Extra on this kind of system the other day on Fox. I think that this would make buyinh 20 items or less much faster than having to go into the long checkout lines as it wouldn't take long to scan 20 items plus you would never get an awkward cashier to deal with.
