I've just gone to VDSL and Telecom have supplied me with a nice sparkly new Technicolor TG589vn v2 router.
I have a static ip number and I want to set up a web server.
I did it quite successfully when I had ADSL and thought (wrongly) it would be a few minutes work to configure the TG589vn.
I have a domain that points to the correct external static ip, but the TG589vn's login page comes up, which is highly undesirable!
I suspect it involves the "Games and applications" settings, but the help pages and manual are vague, so I'm asking for help on this forum as to how I should configure the TG589vn.

I assume you're simply wanting to set up a simple port forward. No idea specifically how to do it on that modem but if you search for the correct term if might make things easier.

Yes you're right. It is a simple port forwarding (I think) I need to do.
I think i have set it up correctly - it just doesn't work - which of course leads me to suspect that I haven't set it up correctly.
I have a webserver running on port 90.
My domain name is pointed to nnn-nnn-nnn-nnn:90 (the nnn etc being the external ip address).
The port forwarding is as below (copied and pasted from the router configuration page)

Protocol Port Range Translate To ... Trigger Protocol Trigger Port
UDP 90 - 90 90 - 90 Any 90
TCP 90 - 90 90 - 90 Any 90

This rule is assigned a name "Forwardtoport90" and assigned to the server's address as below.
(again copied directly from the configuration page)

Game or Application Device Log
Forwardtoport90 192.168.1.12 On

The web page can be reached quite happily on my local networ with "http://192.168.1.12:90"

However, when I try to access the nnn-nnn-nnn-nnn:90 using a browser that's not connected to the local network (iphone with wifi switched off) I get nothing.

Any suggestions?
I'm right at the end of my comfort zone when it comes to ports etc so please forgive any beginner's errors!

Remove the trigger protocol & trigger port. Mine works perfectly fine.

The TG589's web GUI, by default, is disabled from the WAN interface. This suggests to me you're testing this from inside the local network - which won't work with a portforward anyway. You will need, once the port forward is set up, to test it externally. Also, I presume you've set the TG589 to authenticate with your correct Telecom account to obtain the static IP, rather then simply user@xtrabb.co.nz

You can resolve the hostname internally with the TG589vn.
No need to touch your host file :)
