Hi there

we have just got back from the UK, and I'm trying to get my wife's phone working. She has a 4S with iOS6 on it (doesn't want iOS7 yet, but that might be inevitable).

I have a fairly old XT sim in it (2 years or so?). It's on prepaid, and it has credit. I bought a 500MB data pack for it the other day.

With the sim in, it's showing 3G, bars etc, and calls/sms work fine. If I tether it over USB, that works fine, I can ping and browse ok, if a bit slow.

But nothing else works. The browser just times out eventually, other apps are the same, there is nothing in the logs from xcode. No "you are not connected" messages, just long timeouts. It's like there's a firewall up... but it doesn't have one....

Anyone got any ideas? I can't change the APN 'cos its locked out, only the APN for tethering. I thought I might have changed the SIM setting thing for roaming, but it matches what I have. If I change that from TNZ to Sponsor, it doesn't work at all. I'd rather not do the backup-restore-restore the backup dance, 'cos then she gets iOS7....

Very frustrating :)

Thanks!

Nic

Have you tried resetting the network settings?

Yep do a reset of the network settings as nzbnw suggests, or it sounds like it hasn't installed the right carrier bundle. All else fails just do a restore and it should come right.

I've tried a full network setting reset and one for just the "cellular" bit. No dice.

It's weird that tethering works tho!

I want to avoid a full phone restore as that gets ios7 which is not compatible with my wife :)

Try calling 0800 358 423 option 3 then option 2. That will get you through to the data support helpdesk.

Otherwise pop into your local store.

Thanks - I'll give them a call. I need to move to post-paid anyway, but kind of want it working!

nic.wise: It's weird that tethering works tho!

The tethering APN is stored separately from the "on-device" one. It seems that yours is incorrect but resetting network settings should have fixed it. Maybe try synching with iTunes and see what happens.

Thanks, I tried that - nothing. I did see this in the logs when I swapped the UK sim back in, and then the XT one:

Oct 29 16:01:44 ambrosia UserEventAgent[13] <Notice>: (Note ) PIH: New carrier detected.
Oct 29 16:01:44 ambrosia profiled[243] <Notice>: (Note ) profiled: Checking for new carrier profile...
Oct 29 16:01:44 ambrosia profiled[243] <Notice>: (Error) MC: Failed to parse profile data. Error: NSError:
Desc : Invalid Profile
US Desc: Invalid Profile
Domain : MCProfileErrorDomain
Code : 1000
Type : MCFatalError
Oct 29 16:01:44 ambrosia profiled[243] <Notice>: (Note ) profiled: No configuration profile found in carrier bundle.

So.... maybe something is broken and it needs a restore. I dont think I have a 6.1.3 image anywhere and either way, it's not going to validate with Apple.

If I put my O2 sim in, I see everything. It's just the XT one which doesn't.

I wonder if there is any chance it's the SIM card which is faulty? I can't fit my nano sim in it with the adapter to find out....
