Coming to NZ in a week, so I went to the skinny site, put in my IMEI and it said my phone wasn't compatible... is this true?

It's the C6903.

Appears compatible to me upon checking the brand / model you supplied in your message. GSM Arena stated "All Versions" are 850MHZ 3G HSPA capable which suggests it will work on Skinny / Telecom.
Also 900MHZ capable so 2D and Vodafone capable here too.

But is it locked to an Aussie network? If it's still locked to an Aussie carrier it won't work unless you get it unlocked....

That's exactly what I was thinking! That's why it was weird that it said not compatible.
Not locked. Most carriers here don't lock high end devices. And, while I bought it from Optus, I run Amaysim.

Skinny's imei checker is crap.
My phone supports skinny / XT frequencies but their checker said not compatible.

I emailed skinny to ask and they said if the imei checker indicates it wont work - then that is correct, it wont work.

Put in a skinny sim and it works fine.

So don't rely on the skinny imei checker (or real people at skinny for that matter :-)  )

Cheers for that. I figured it would... As far as I know, the C6903 is the same model being sold by telecom!
