Telecom have funded us to test their fibre provision over UFB.

We are now looking for volunteers, in all areas, we have 1 at present but I have funding for 20.

Our probe is a GigE bridged router set up in Bridged router mode, with a double reach Wifi from MicroTek - a RB/951G-2HnD

Test data use is from 3GB/month up to as much as you are happy to provide, and can be managed by you in real time.

We are working on a major upgrade of our reporting page at present with a target to launch this week, but the old one provides a look at your own performance with minimal delay, if not with the best tests showing.  The old reporting module was designed around ADSL and so only uses a 300k file for reporting, but we use a 1MB file for public reporting on Fibre, which is far more accurate.  The new page will provide a lot more test results.

The double reach of the wifi is a real benefit, in my house it means full reception in the upper floors, through steel "beams" (Rondo) used for sound proofing., we have 3 floors and the wifi is on the bottom.

Testing is also free of interference with your use, the probe watches for any traffic and pauses if it detects over 100k.  This also means that if you bit-torrent a lot, it may not be good for us.  It is a tiny OS, so it cannot and does not read content of traffic, although we would love to offer a service to count traffic for volunteers own use.

I know a few people that would be happy to run the probe across NZ... but they are all employees so I thought you had a strict no-employee rule.

You know where I am at if you wanted some contact :)

Sorry we don't want employees, that has the appearance of a conflict of interest, even if they are in an unrelated division.  However I am happy for you and your other employees to recommend to non-employees that they sign up by going to our website.
We select volunteers based on various criteria and they also sign up confidentially so the conflict of interest drops out as Telecom don't know which got accepted and which applied.
