I have a new Galaxy S4 (bought from Warehouse Stationary) here that i'm setting up before xmas and i've done all the updates but it doesn't show 4G as an option in the settings and the *#*#4636#*#* code won't even enable anything.

Any clues? Or am I missing something obvious?

Is it running 4.3?

Settings > More > About Device > Check android Version.

I think the 4.3 update included the 4G 'unlock'.

Otherwise look here http://echoerom.com/faq/ and check the answer to LTE is not working, how can i fix it?

OR  Install a custom ROM and enjoy!

Yeah, I did the update to 4.3.

It's not rooted (yet) and don't see why I should have to when the Telecom site online says I should see LTE as an option in the phones settings.

Are you using a SIM just purchased or have you transferred across a SIM from a previous phone? At the moment you need a 4G enabled SIM (in reality a SIM that our 4G system knows about) and you need to be ina 4G coverage area (obviously).

If you can go into a Telecom Retail shop I am sure they could help you, or run through this...

http://www.telecom.co.nz/mobile/mobile/overview/4gupgrade/getready/

It's the last step that I suspect may be the issue.

It's a 4G sim from another S4 which had 4G working fine so I shouldn't need to do anything on that front.

Ahhh, One thing I missed from your original post - what network was it set for when it was bought from Warehouse Stationery?

I just asked for a Telecom S4 and the guy gave me one. Is it not that simple?

They may not have given you a Telecom one, is there any indication on the box/receipt?  when you start it up does it have any carriers logo?

It should be... I have a Telecom S4 as well (and working on 4G) but it's rooted and running a custom ROM now - I'm afraid I can't remember an easy way to determine for sure that it's a Telecom supplied phone - it's probably obvious with some Telecom branding... Can you see any?

Also, where abouts are you? Are you definitely in a 4G coverage area?

Cheers - N

No carrier logo's of any kind on the box or the phone.

I'm on Cuba St in Wellington. My other S4 had 4 bars of 4G right where I am now.

I wouldn't expect any physically printed on the box or phone, but how about during startup? Ore are there any carrier logos on any of the screens once it's booted?

Is there a Your Telecom link on the device anywhere? Is a bookmark to a website all Telecom sourced devices comes with.

A lot of the mass market retailers have the carrier printed on their price tags, so they can tell the difference.
