Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knew the APN for skinny that is not firewalled (or have port restrictions)?

I've recently changed from 2 degrees and they have a "direct" APN (as do telecom and vodafone) which allows incoming connections so that (for instance) you can have a web server hanging off the PC which has the Skinny dongle attached. Skinny's wapaccess.co.nz APN doesnt allow incoming connections.

For example telecom's is: direct.telecom.co.nz and has no firewall and no port restrictions. Have tried this given skinny is telecom, but no joy.

Suggestions??

AFAIK that's their only APN. I generally recommend people stick to the three actual operators (rather than virtual ones) if they need direct connections.

Try using direct.telecom.co.nz

Im sick of people saying Skinny is telecom, it may be owned by telecom and use their towers, but it is NOT telecom. Telecom is Telecom.

Its like jetstar is not qantas

It was an idea, i didnt think it would work though

There is a new change on skinny that whatever the apn is set to it will always work

last week I put a new skinny SIM into a Telecom SGS1 and the Telecom APNs worked fine on Skinny. Internet and MMS.

If you put an 'invalid' APN name into your device then the system will overwrite this with wapaccess.co.nz. That is why your service is working, but you aren't actually using the Telecom APN.

Just popped a Skinny SIM in my S2 and I assumed it worked because I still had the Telecom APN defined.

I was suppsed to get a message with APN settings but it never turned up.

Generally known online as OpenMedia, now working for Red Hat APAC as a Technology Evangelist and Portfolio Architect. Still playing with MythTV and digital media on the side.
