Hey everyone,

I'm just about to buy a Galaxy S4 and am currently on Vodafone's Smart $19 plan (500MB, 100 mins, unlimited texts) but have been considering switching to Skinny's $16 plan. My only reason for switching is the price difference, I'm not really having any problems with my current plan.

Is there some catch with the cheaper offering? It seems too good to be true, although $3 isn't a huge saving the extras currently on offer are nice, so I was just wondering if there is a sacrifice in terms of data speed or anything else?

Well vodafone has 4g and they skinny doesnt yet so data wont be as fast.

Skinny also doesnt have call waiting or HD voice (which is a vodafone exclusive)

Catches are double data and double minutes and aussie calling and texting ends on the 31st of January but hopefully it will be extended

Other thing by the looks is they don't offer Data Roaming if travelling overseas

If you use all your data and want a top up, you won't pay the full price, or get the full amount. Very annoying. They just pro-rate until the end of the month.
It meant I had to keep topping up smaller and smaller amounts when I was on holiday. Next time, I'm going 2d or VF.

There is a $2 for 48mb that lasts 48 hours but yeah I agree,

Buying a $4 love bytes combo can be good though

ALSO once youve used all your data it stops so you wont be charged standard rates for overage which is quite nice to be honest

Yeah, I used the 48 at the airport.. and ran out. Couldn't get more data and was unimpressed. Lost my download.

Who actually uses data roaming unless its on something like Telecom's pay monthly only $6/day plan?
All prepaid roaming data is outrageously expensive. I opt for putting my NZ sim in a basic featurephone and then get a local prepaid sim. Far far better, especially when 90% of what i do is data.

All prepaid roaming data is outrageously expensive. I opt for putting my NZ sim in a basic featurephone and then get a local prepaid sim. Far far better, especially when 90% of what i do is data.

Lots use data roaming you would be quite surprised, You can't use a corporate APN on the other SIM card for a start

ok so you are buying a top end Smartphone and quibbling about $3, I don't get it in 1 year you would save $36 if you changed am I missing something here

"when someone else is paying the bill" its easier to leave your normal SIM in the phone and roam overseas :)

I now also have a Telecom SIM and will be using that for $6/day in AU and $10/day in US deal rather than mucking around picking up an Optus SIM in AU or ATT in the US
