Some family members are doing it ... as they don't use much and the rates are cheaper than 2D and even so for many others there is the $16 combo too provided one isn't too fussy about 4G etc.

I wished I can but I have a LG Optimus that isn't 850Mhz. If I known earlier about it I may have gotten a diff version one.

My dad is a relatively low user, sends just a few texts, doesnt use much internet, or even call that much

Last week he didnt have enough credit to renew the combo, and when he topped up again he didnt renew it,

He made a few phone calls and it costed him about $6

Before that he was on the Loose Lips combo which is $4 a week that has 60 minutes every week, and 100 texts and 60mb data. Much better value

Now he has moved to the $16 stretch combo because it has nearly as much minutes and more data, plus the minutes roll over

Yep - swapped my mother-in-law over @ Xmas.

They moved to a location where Vodafone is marginal, so with a $19 phone from WHS - and then first $16 combo free with a transfer from Vodafone - it really did become a no-brainer.

My whole family was on Vodafone prepay. But when they changed casual TXTs to 20 cents each, and a MINIMUM charge of $1.00 for even just a few Kb of data per day, I changed to Skinny.

Once I was on Skinny, the rest of the family moved too. We are not big users, but what Vodafone may not appreciate is that once one member of the family changes, and then spreads the word on how good the change is for them, the rest of the family may follow, as happened in my family. So that's four customers Vodafone lost due to their high casual rates.

We have no regrets - it was the right move for us, and now we are no longer being charged $1 per day data minimum, and TXTs are under half the cost (Skinny is just 8 cents/TXT). That $1.00 minimum data charge per day is a killer ($365.00 per year, for hardly any data use).

I changed my mother in law, she prob spends $20 per year on texts and a few voice mins, so all she wanted was the lowest casual rates.

Swapped my mother over to Skinny when they launched. She is on her 2nd top up now. Very low user.

Do whatever you want to do man.

Will be switching the low users I help out from telecom to 2d or skinny, depending on which offers the best price, as telecom have ceased their old legacy plans.

My bro is just about to make the switch he picked up a free $50 phone - Xmas promotion. Mum will make the swtich over by October she has $30 to use up.

I find that even if one is not super light user Skinny has the cheapest plans. 180 minutes, 1GB data, unlimited text. Many people are on the $19 package with the other 3 telco's, if they can live without 4G.... and don't Vodafone and/or Telecom only provide 500MB of data. I know that 2Degrees provides 1GB data though at least over Dec/Jan, future pending ....

I'm on Vodafone family (free calling between 4 phones costing us $40 a month). I am also a low user on Skinny. Being on both networks has been handy for cheap casual rates. But if we moved from Vodafone we'd probably go to 2Degrees because they have better deals for what we need.

I would switch my GPS trackers over if they werent GSM only. With 2d roaming not working properly on them it really only leaves vodafone as the only viable choice for them, but the 20c per text and crazy data costs with no plan really do begin to cost you if you actually need to use them.

If there are any 3G trackers available at a sane price next time the need to top up rolls around I will look at moving them to skinny.

I have one of the $2 skinny sims from Skinny.co.nz and everytime i get the $16 combo I also get 1000 minutes to other people on skinny,
