I just got a Moto X and popped in a Skinny SIM and on mobile data the 4G indicator lights up and seems pretty quick.

I did a speed test at 17:33 today (probably not the ideal time for a speed test!) and the mobile data was almost twice the speed of my Christchurch Vodafone cable speed, clocking in at 21.31Mbps.

Is this likely connecting at 4G, or is the "4G" indicator just a generic one for mobile data?

I was suprised as I didn't expect the Moto X's US 4G frequencies to work, let alone on Skinny!

US class 3G+ as 4G, You are only connecting to 3G / WCDMA not 4G / LTE

Thanks for the clarification

Thought it was a bit odd. Oh well, 3G+ is more than fast enough for me!

Just wait until you hit a congested area, that's where 3G really can't handle it, regardless of whether you have a dual carrier HSPA+ device or not. Thankfully as more people more to 4G itll take more load off 3G too, so better for everyone.
