Hi there.   We are going away on a camping trip to Motutapu island.   I'm really hoping to get decent cellphone reception. Using XT obviously. We will be staying on the old WWII site in Administration Bay.

Already searched for Cell Towers nearby, and there's none on the island, (Obviously), so my main question, should we still get reception, possibly by the mainland transmitters overspilling, over the island? Or is there zero hope at all for reception?   Thanks

It's patchy in that area but you may get lucky.

If you can see Auckland, or Matiatia (Waiheke), you should be OK.

I catch a ferry past Motutapu every day. Vodafone gets dodgy just before Islington Bay (on the way from Waiheke), but Telecom stays pretty good throughout the whole trip.

You might get cell reception on the beach facing Waiheke but otherwise I do not expect coverage on Motutapu Island.
